- Hampshire Constabulary has blamed ‘illegal’ tread depth on tyres for the crash
- But the 24-year-old currency trader says his racing track tyres were road legal
- Mr Homer, from Southampton, plans to appeal the three points on his licence
A bragging ‘Wolf of Wall Street wannabe’ who wrote off his £40,000 BMW when the vehicle aquaplaned and flipped on a motorway has been slammed by police for having ‘illegal’ racing tyres.
Currency trader Jordan Homer lost control his of BMW M4 after he hit a pool of standing water on the M3 near Winchester, Hants, on Tuesday.
The nearly-new car flipped onto its roof and was written off following the crash – which police have blamed the tread depth of his car’s tyres.
But after crashing the vehicle, the 24-year-old, who boasts a six figure salary from Forex trading, took to Instagram to brag how he had walked away with just a cut to his hand.
He also boasted that his Gucci slides, which can cost hundreds of pounds, had survived.
Police meanwhile have slapped him with three points on his licence because the tread depth of his vehicle’s tyres were below the legal limit.
The trader maintains the tyres were road legal.

Mr Homer, whose Instagram is littered with photos of him posing with Dom Perignon champagne and Rolexes in exotic locations, said he was out and about during lockdown with a pal to collect a £850 bike – something he described as a ‘completely necessary trip’.
After the crash, he filmed a video for his 11,600 Instagram followers to show he only had a cut to his hand despite leaving his car a mangled wreck – and gloating that his Gucci slides survived.
However the trader’s video proudly showing he had escaped the smash unscathed was met with backlash as social media users questioned why he spent his cash on designer flip flops and not safer tyres.
One follower called him a ‘donut’ and advised him to invest his high salary in some driving lessons, while another branded him as a ‘Wolf of Wall Street wannabe’ – but one that ‘couldn’t afford tyres for his car’.
Mr Homer, from Southampton, disputes that his tread depth was illegal and claims it was because his Michelin Sport Cup 2 tyres have a particular tread on the inside, which Michelin describe as designed ‘for the track’ but road legal.
The trader, of Southampton, Hampshire, said: ‘It was a second hand car worth £40,000, but it will be a write-off.
‘Surprisingly I’ve only got a small cut on my body – I probably put my hand on a bit of glass as obviously the car was upside down.
‘The guy that was with me has got a slightly swollen elbow and a bit of a sore shoulder, same as I have from the initial impact of the roll.
‘Other than that we’re ok – I guess someone was looking over us that day.
‘I did everything correctly and it was just unfortunate that I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.’
Mr Homer and his passenger escaped virtually unharmed, but his BMW and brand new £850 bike, which he’d owned for just under an hour, were damaged beyond repair.

Hampshire Constabulary said Mr Homer’s tyres did not meet the minimum required tread depth – which for cars is 1.6mm. Pictured: The tyres on Mr Homer’s vehicle

He added: ‘I obeyed all the speed limits. The roads had a bit of stagnant water on them so I slowed right down and tried to move across from the third lane into the middle lane.
‘There was some more water and the back end just came around on the car.’
Hants Road Policing blamed the tyres for the accident and said the vehicle ‘lost control due to lack of grip and aquaplaned’.
They tweeted: ‘Please check the inside as well as outside tread of your tyres. Especially if you have high power rear wheel drive car with wide wheels.
‘This one was under the legal tread depth which will explain why its now upside down. No injuries this time thankfully.’
Hampshire Constabulary said Mr Homer’s tyres did not meet the minimum required tread depth – but Jordan claims they were ‘well over the limit’ and that he is pursuing overturning the three points on his licence with police.
He said: ‘The tires are absolutely fine – the police measured the rest of the treads and they were all about 4mm worth of tread depth – which is 2.5mm over the legal requirements.’

The 24-year-old’s Instagram video has received more than 11,500 views as well as ‘a lot of ‘hate’.
One follower said: ‘Maybe if you spent the money you did on your Gucci slides on tyres you wouldn’t be in this position.’
Another said: ‘Donut should invest in some driving lessons.’
One added: ‘This is a good advertising campaign, I’d definitely like to invest in someone who puts £200 slides above road legal tyres.’
Another commented: ‘Wolf of Wall St wannabes…except Jordan [Belfort] could afford tyres for his car.’
Michelin’s website lists the Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres as ‘designed for the track, and approved for on-road use’, which give ‘faster’ laps – and are supposed to offer improved safety on wet roads.
A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘We were called just before 12.40pm to a report of a vehicle overturned on the hard shoulder of the M3 southbound between junctions 8 and 9 near Winchester.
‘No injuries were reported. The driver was reported for having tyres which did not meet the minimum required tread depth.’
