A BRITISH woman will marry a double killer in a US jail later this year – despite having never met him.
Naoimi Wise, 26, fell in love with Victor Oquendo, 30, who has been nicknamed Animal, while the pair were penpals.
Now she hopes to fly to America this summer – with a possible date for their jailhouse wedding set in September.
Oquendo shot two men in a gangland hit, and played a part in three armed robberies.
So far he has served ten years of his 24-year sentence.
However Naoimi, from Chelmsford in Essex, told The Mirror that there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to her heavily tattooed fiance.
She said: “Victor is the kindest man I have ever met. People might judge before knowing the full story, but I can’t imagine my life without him.”
Last month Naoimi got a tattoo of Oquendo’s initials on her wrist.
The pair first got in contact when Naoimi was a trainee counsellor, looking to become a mentor.
After writing, the couple exchanged phone calls and quickly fell in love.
She now spends around £270 a month on ringing the US and emails and it’s $20 to send 200 messages to Oquendo’s jail account.
Naomi said: "Victor is the man I want to be with. From the beginning, I knew it was different."
The pair have not had any physical contact but Naomi says they are very "emotionally connected".
Conjugal visits are not permitted in Michigan, where Oquendo is serving his sentence.
But Naomi told the Mirror: "Sex is not a deal-breaker for me. I’m happy to stay faithful."
She added: "And we do try to be intimate on the phone when we can. We find moments to have intimacy together. We’re also in contact with each other throughout the day and Victor is such a good listener."
Naomi plans to visit Oquendo in May or June wityh the couple tying the knot in September.
She said her family know about the long distance relationship but havent commented on it so far.
But she admitted they are worried about the affair, adding: "I know it will take time for them to come round.”
While Naomi says her and Oquendo are madly in love, it wasn’t all plain sailing.
Her beau chose to hold back his gritty past for the first two weeks they were chatting.
Naomi said: “I was shocked. It was a lot to take in. I wanted to know how he felt about what he’d done. If he didn’t care that would have been a red flag, but he’s extremely remorseful.
“He struggles to live with himself and has night terrors. It said a lot to me about the person he really is.”
