Yellowstone is currently filming its fourth season ahead of a return to screens in 2021. However, Kevin Costner has already opened up on what he thinks the future will hold for his character John Dutton when the hit Western finally comes to an end.
How will Yellowstone end for John Dutton?
Western drama Yellowstone brought its third season to an end on the Paramount Network earlier this year.
The show shocked fans with a dramatic finale as a number of the characters were left in danger.
One of those in trouble was John Dutton who was shot while helping a woman at the side of the road.
Ahead of the fourth season, it is not yet known what the future holds for the character.
However, actor Costner has opened up about how it might end for John.
In an interview with IndieWire back in 2019, the star revealed his thoughts about his trajectory.
He explained how he was not sure if John would be able to be satisfied by the end of the show.
Speaking about this, Costner said: “I don’t see that path.
“If [John] keeps making these same mistakes, people will lose faith in who [he is], even as a character.
“The show has to watch out for that, but in real life and in real movies, you know what you’ve done, and you just try to do the best you can.
“If you just keep repeating yourself, then it’s like a friend you want to like, but you don’t respect them.”
However, during the interview, he also admitted he was not privy to the direction the show’s creator Taylor Sheridan might take.

When asked about this, he added: “I would like to, but I’m not always privy to it, no.
“Sometimes with [John’s] sons or wife or whatever, that’s been really kept in a creative ball.
“That’s a more vulnerable way to go through life as an actor.”
Despite this, Sheridan has admitted he has a plan for his characters and a certain point he’s working toward.
Speaking to Deadline earlier in 2020, he explained he felt there would be around two more seasons after the upcoming fourth outing.
He added: “Well, I know how it ends. I know how the series ends, and you have to move in a straight line toward that end.
“You can’t walk in circles, waiting to get there, because the show will stagnate.
“So, you have to keep moving forward, and there have to be consequences in the world, and there has to be an evolution toward a conclusion.”
Yellowstone will return with season 4 in 2021.
