The Walking Dead creator insists lockdown will make Rick Grimes movie ‘better’ as bosses work tirelessly behind scenes

THE Walking Dead creator has revealed a flurry of "behind the scenes" work on the new Rick Grimes movie – insisting the COVID-19 pandemic will make it "better."

The TV show's spin-off, which will be the first of a film trilogy, will track Andrew Lincoln's character after his escape in a Civic Republic Military helicopter.

Work on the script, the content of which has been kept super secret, was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Yet The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman has insisted the delay was actually a good thing to produce a plotline with "better" content.

He told Skybound Entertainment’s Skybound Xpo panel: “There’s tons of stuff going on behind the scenes.

“I don’t want anyone to think that we’re just kind of waiting around for this pandemic to end.”

Giving his thought on the impact of the virus, which sparked a lockdown in the US as well as many other countries worldwide, and strict social distancing measures, he added: “I would say that, if anything, the pandemic is going to make a lot of movies better.

“I think the Rick Grimes movie chief among them, just because we’re getting a lot more time to cook this thing and make sure it’s perfect.”

His teasing words of the upcoming film are likely to leave Walking Dead fans on the edge of their seats.

Meanwhile, although little is known about Rick's next actions in the movie, actress Pollyanna McIntosh, who plays Jadis/Anne, has hinted on numerous occasions she will play a role.

The actress' character was key in helping Rick survive and escape on the helicopter, so it makes sense she'd be a part of his next chapter.

Pollyanna told GalaxyCon Live: “I may or may not be doing a Walking Dead film that Andy is involved in, playing Rick. Let's see what happens.”

“We have to know what happens beyond the helicopter.

So that might be something I've got to look forward to.”

Teasing fans further, she added: "That would be something that would be fun, if we were to be doing that at some point."

Back on the original AMC zombie show, the cast are set for another huge time jump in series 11.

The season 10 finale had to be postponed earlier this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

While it it set to air later this year, season 11 will reportedly jump forward in time – with speculation there will only be two further series after this.
