The Terror is an American horror drama anthology television series based on the true-life story of 19th-century exploration vessels Erebus and Terror. The series first aired on AMC in the US and has finally landed in the UK. Episodes air every Wednesday evening on BBC Two at 9pm and the entire series is available to stream and download via the BBC iPlayer now. Who is in the cast of The Terror?
Sir John Franklin – Ciarán Hinds
Ciarán Hinds plays Sir John Franklin in The Terror on BBC Two.
The series is inspired by a true story and centres around the story of Franklin and his crew’s Royal Navy expedition to the Arctic in 1845, seeking to find the Northwest Passage.
Hinds is an Irish actor, best known for his role as Julius Caesar in Rome, DCI James Langton in Above Suspicion and Mance Rayder in Game of Thrones.
His other well-known credits include Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Frozen, Silence, Red Sparrow and Justice League.
Francis Crozier- Jared Harris
Chernobyl’s Jared Harris stars as Francis Crozier in The Terror on BBC Two.
Francis Crozier is Captain of the HMS Terror and was a real Irish officer of the Royal Navy.
Crozier was also a polar explorer, who participated in six expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic.
Harris is best known for his role as Lane Pryce in Mad Men as well as King George VI in The Crown, Anderson Dawes in The Expanse and Valery Legasov in Chernobyl.

James Fitzjames – Tobias Menzies
The Crown’s Tobias Menzies portrays James Fitzjames in The Terror.
James Fitzjames is the Captain of HMS Erebus and was a real British Royal Navy officer who participated in two major exploratory expeditions, the Euphrates Expedition and the Franklin Expedition.
Menzies is best known for portraying Prince Philip in seasons three and four of The Crown on Netflix, receiving a Golden Globe nomination for his performance.
He is also well known for playing Frank and Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall in Outlander, Brutus in HBO’s Rome and Edmure Tully in Game of Thrones.
Cornelius Hickey – Adam Nagaitis
Adam Nagaitis reunites with his Chernobyl co-star Jared Harris in The Terror.
Nagaitis takes on the role of Caulker’s Mate Cornelius, the main villain of the series.
Viewers will most likely recognise Nagaitis as firefighter Vasily Ignatenko from HBO’s and Sky’s Chernobyl.
His other credits include the films Gunpowder Milkshake, Suffragette and Frankenstein.
Lady Silence – Nive Nielsen
Nive Nielsen stars as Lady Silence in The Terror on BBC Two and the iPlayer.
Nielsen is a singer-songwriter and actress from Nuuk, Greenland.
The Terror is Nielsen’s first lead television role, having previously starred in the films The New World and Togo.
In The New World, she starred alongside Colin Farrell and in Disney’s Togo, she played the role of Atiqtalik.

Lady Jane Franklin – Greta Scacchi
Greta Scacchi plays Lady Jane Franklin, the second wife of Sir John Franklin.
The character Jane Franklin is based on the real Jane Franklin, who was well known for her philanthropic work and her travels throughout south-eastern Australia
Scacchi is an Italian-Australian actress, best known for playing Empress Alexandra Fyodorovna of Russia in the television film, Rasputin: Dark Servant of Destiny.
For her portrayal of Empress Alexandra, Scacchi won a Primetime Emmy Award for Best Actress and earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
