The Last Kingdom season 5: Will Uhtred claim back Bebbanburg?
The series is based on The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell, and his character appears in two of Cornwell’s books.
In the series, he travels to Wales to save Uhtred’s childhood friend, Brida, who was raised as a Saxon just like him.
Earlier on in the series, during a battle between the Danes lead by Cnut (Magnus Brunn), Mercia and Winchester, Brida runs off to find Cnut and Uhtred fighting.
Brida overhears Uhtred revealing it was Cnut who ordered for her previous husband Ragnar (Tobias Santelmann) to be killed, and she ends up killing Cnut, full of anger.
She asks for Uhtred to kill her so she can die an honourable death on the battlefield and go to Valhalla, as she has been surrounded by Welsh soldiers.
She begs for Uhtred to take her life as she does not want to succumb to a life of slavery, but Uhtred does not have the guts to kill his childhood friend.
Instead, he watches Brida crying as the Welsh soldiers drag her away, and she is forced to act as a slave for the Welsh King.
Fans have mixed feelings for Sigtryggr’s character and they have taken to Twitter to share their opinions of him.
One fan said: “I’m not going to lie, I shouldn’t because he is a villain but I love Sigtryggr from The Last Kingdom.”
Another fan added: “The Last Kingdom is officially holding the number one spot on my all time show list. Season 4 solidified it. Sigtryggr was an interesting curveball into the series and Uhtred is still the goat.”

One fan said on Twitter: “Sigtryggr is a treat toward the end of S4 The Last Kingdom. He’s like a combination of The Tudor’s Henry VIII and Jim Morrison. My second favorite Viking in the series after Skade.”
Eysteinn Sigurðarson, who plays him, was born in Iceland but he grew up in Wisconsin, where he studied English and Creative Writing.
