Whether it’s with your boo or your (very small, COVID-safe) crew, Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to act and feel mushy with the people you love. Maybe you want to put on those rose-colored glasses and feel like the world is full of love and rainbows. Or maybe you just want to cry alone into a pint of Häagen-Dazs that technically isn’t a single serving but will absolutely be finished in one sitting. Totally up to you.
Fortunately, Netflix has something for all your Valentine’s Day streaming needs…whatever those may be. We’ve compiled 25 of the sweetest, sappiest movies that’ll have you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. And maybe make you whip out that box (er, boxes) of tissues. You better strap on your seat belt because the emotional roller coaster is REAL.
This whirlwind of a love-story-turned-breakup film (and about finding yourself after a painful breakup) is best watched with a group of girlfriends. And wine. Lots of wine. Oh, and grab some tissues while you’re at it.
Okay, we know the premise is a little weird: An introvert finds himself falling in love with an artificial entity named Samantha (à la Amazon’s Alexa). But this movie will one hundred percent send you on an emotional roller coaster. Honestly, who knew you’d be shipping a human-robot romance at some point in your life?
Always Be My Maybe
There’s nothing better than a good, lighthearted reunion flick. Centered on two former flames who meet again 15 years later, it’s a great way to reflect on how people change over time and if you can deny an obvious connection. Spoiler: You can’t. Also, Keanu Reeves shows up, so you know it’ll be worth it.
Sprinkle some science fiction into your typical rom-com and you get this sweet gem about a destined love, many regrets, and, of course, time travel. Honestly, who wouldn’t want the opportunity to travel back in time and clean up your messes? Turns out, not everything can be fixed (cue the drama).
Ibiza: Love Drunk
You know when you watch a movie on a wine night with your friends but everyone’s talking over it and you’re sad that you’re missing what is probably a very good film? Well…Ibiza is the solution to that problem. It’s definitely funny, but it doesn’t require your full attention.
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before
Do you feel like experiencing every single human emotion in the span of an hour and 39 minutes? Well, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is the movie for you! But with your Noah Centineo obsession, you probably already fully knew that.
To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You
And after you watch the first one, the best use of your time is CLEARLY to then immediately watch the second, to find out what happens next with Lara Jean and Peter’s whirlwind ~romance~.
The Kissing Booth
If you’ve already seen TATBILB too many times to count but you still feel like crying over an adorable story about young love, watch The Kissing Booth IMMEDIATELY.
The Kissing Booth 2
Do Elle and Noah survive his first year at Harvard? Will she be able to resist the temptation of hooking up with the new snack at her school? You’re gonna have to watch to find out, obviously!
Silver Linings Playbook
Because you’ve already watched A Star Is Born too many times but you wanna proceed with your regularly scheduled “crying over Bradley Cooper” programming anyway.
There’s nothing like a good thriller to get you in the mood (for cuddling, etc.). Based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, Gerald’s Game stars Bruce Greenwood and Carla Gugino as married folk who try to spruce things up in vacation boudoir—only to have things go wrong almost immediately. There’s a dog in this one too, but let’s just say this four-legged creature is not man’s best friend.
Set It Up
In 2018, the rom-com genre breathed new life thanks to films like Set It Up, starring Zoey Deutch and Glen Powell as two assistants who hatch a plan for their bosses to fall in love.
Michael Bolton’s Big Sexy Valentine’s Day Special
Those who are into both Christmas and Valentine’s Day should have no problem enjoying this star-studded Michael Bolton variety special about what happens when there’s a surplus of toys made by Santa’s elves. This is related to Valentine’s Day, promise.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
Choosing between two equally hot men isn’t exactly the worst problem to have, but you can still empathize with Lily James’s struggle. Will she choose the wealthy American man or the sweet British lad? You’ll have to watch till the end to find out.
A forbidden affair, heartbreak, and true love…what more could you ask for?
What a Girl Wants
If you want to watch something fun and funny on Valentine’s Day and also want to refresh your memory on “The Scarlet Letter” (which you definitely didn’t read in A.P. Lit like you were supposed to).
The Half of It
This is one of those classic “girl tries to help cute guy friend get the girl” movies, but the twist is that the girl… actually has a crush on the other girl, too. Cute!
The Prince & Me
Who would have thought Julia Styles would have completely predicted Meghan Markle’s entire life? Not me!
Watch this movie if you wanna feel really, really good about spending your Valentine’s Day alone as a single person.
