Tonight, Winter on the Farm presenters Helen Skelton and Jules Hudson were joined by Helen’s Strictly Come Dancing partner Gorka Marquez. While mucking out and meeting his new namesake, Gorka the Bull, the professional dancer was given a stern warning by Helen after wanting to ride one of the resident horses.

The team were also joined by The Yorkshire Vet’s Matthew Jackson-Smith who spoke about how busy the farming season had become.

He explained: “We had our first lambing at the weekend, and I had to rush off to a calving this afternoon on the way here, that’s why I was a little bit late.”

Helen commented: “You have had a busy day, there was almost an issue with Hercules! But she was fine, we thought she needed stitches but she didn’t.”

Matthew revealed: “Doing really well, a bit of a wound, had a cleanup, some pain relief, antibiotics.”

Helen teased Gorka: “Gorka, I know when you said you were coming to the farm you were keen to ride the horse.”

Gorka exclaimed: “Yes!” but Helen shut down his request and warned: “But I need you, so I said please don’t let him on that horse.

“Keep him firmly on the ground instead.”

During the show, Gorka also made friends with the new bull on the farm, after Rob and Dave Nicholson revealed the news that their oldest bull Jeremy had died.

Rob explained that Jeremy had contracted an incurable disease and they were devasted at the revelation.

While on the hunt for a new member of the herd, the pair also had to think of a name for the newest member of the family.

After finalising the bull they wanted, the pair decided to name the bull after Gorka, because of the way he carried himself and how stylish he was.

Meeting his namesake, the brothers, Helen and Jude found Gorka feeding the bull and making himself acquainted.

He teased: “I never thought I would be feeding myself, but he is better looking than me I must say.

“He is stronger, so I am very proud that he is named, Gorka. I think he is very sensitive like me, don’t you think Helen?”

She teased: “Urm if you say so, very supportive and patient is what that bull is saying to me!”

At the end of the episode, Jules revealed that Helen would not be presenting the rest of the week’s episodes, as she heads off to train for the Strictly semi-finals.

Last night, Helen made a cheeky jibe at the BBC and her Strictly Come Dancing stint when Jules asked to see some of her new moves.

Not being able to resist talking about Helen’s recent BBC stint, Jules teased: “The huge elephant-sized glitterball in the room, you getting to the semi-finals of Strictly Come Dancing!

“What about that! What a journey you have been on, surely we’re going to see some moves tonight?”

However, Helen was quick to shut down his request and said: “I’ve been having so much fun and I’m really grateful for all of the support.

“But I can’t show you a move. If I even think about dancing the BBC will get their knickers in a twist. It will set off a Strictly alarm. Craig Revel Horwood will rush in here and wrestle me to the ground,” she teased.

Winter on the Farm continues Wednesday from 8pm on Channel 5.
