A decade after a tram ploughed into the two shops on Coronation Street, the community is set to be rocked by more carnage as Ray Crosby (Mark Frost) gets set to demolish the brewery before the application for it to be listed as a historical building.
The application has been fast tracked but after getting wind of it from Ken Barlow (Bill Roache), scheming Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) warns Ray about the clever move from the defiant community.
Ray is having none of it so orders in the bulldozers that very afternoon but the residents are one step ahead and form a group, protecting the building in protest.
As they chant and camp out, Ray is seething but then he hires out a long reach crane which can do the job for him.
With Kevin bewildered over how Ray discovered the truth, he rounds on Debbie while Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) boards the crane and tries to operate it to divert its true purpose.
But as she loses control of the vehicle, there are horrifying scenes as it smashes into a nearby substation, plunging the entire street into chaos.
In the confusion and pandemonium of the accident, Kevin’s contact arrives with the last minute order to delay any demolition.
But at what cost? What are the consequences of the crash and will anyone be hurt – or even worse, have they died in their battle to save Coronation Street?
