Spoilers: Corrie child to die in most heartbreaking story yet?

Coronation Street could be set to air its most heartbreaking storyline of all time as young child Oliver falls desperately ill. In the wake of show boss Iain MacLeod recently warning Metro.co.uk that one of the most hardhitting stories he has ever tackled will take place this spring and tear apart numerous families, could Oliver be set to die?

Iain previously hinted at the storyline, telling us: ‘There is a huge new story which I can’t say too much more about at this stage if you’ll forgive me for being cryptic but having re-established Steve and Tracy’s relationship on its strongest footing, something will happen that probably has the most far-reaching impact of any story we’ve done since I’ve been on the show, and I include both stints, where something horrifically difficult and challenging will happen that draws in 3-4 different clans on the Street and forces them to deal with the hardest thing anyone would ever had to deal with.

‘That will begin on screen, you might not know what it is at first, around March/April, and that will play out over the spring and into the summer.’

That certainly fits the the timeframe of recent spoilers, which have revealed that young Oliver will start fitting while left under the care of Summer – could Steve, Leanne and Nick be forced to face their worst possible nightmare?

The synopsis states: ‘Leanne leaves Oliver with Steve for the day. Feeling awful over Eccles, Emma returns to the salon flat and tells Seb she’s moving back in so he will have to move out. Seb refuses and riles Emma.

‘Clocking the fracas in the salon flat, Steve persuades Summer to mind Oliver and heads over. After calming Emma down, Steve returns home to be met by a panicky Summer who explains how Oliver suddenly started fitting. Steve scoops up his son and dashes out.

It sounds as if there are traumatic times ahead…
