We saw first hand how toxic Linda Carter’s (Kellie Bright) alcoholism was to her life, family and marriage in EastEnders and it was with the help and support of husband Mick (Danny Dyer) that she was able to overcome her demons.
She recently had one lapse which led to a drunken kiss with Max Branning (Jake Wood) but Mick has had other things on his mind as the arrival of Katy Lewis (Simone Lahbib) back on the scene has brought back the childhood trauma of her grooming and abuse.
With Mick snapping and not letting Linda in, she has found herself once again seeking Max’s solace and friendship – but he clearly wants more and with Linda working on a business idea, Max curries favour with her by persuading Bobble Beale (Clay Milner Russell) to expand the age range for applicants to the Lucy Beale foundation.
Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) knows a cheater when she sees one and warns Max off before telling Linda to be careful – but Linda assures her that Max is just a friend.
With Mick absent and away from Walford and staying with Lee, she is feeling vulnerable though and when a further meeting with Max awakens some chemistry, Linda is awash with guilt and avoids him, instead heading to the club where Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton) watches her with a beady and judgey eye.
After Linda has a go at her, her issues with alcohol rear their head again and she swipes a bottle.
Before she drinks it, she reaches out to Mick as she calls him – but will he answer or will he ignore her plight as he deals with his own torment?
And if so, will Linda crack and fall off the wagon?
