Holland’s Spider-Man made a triumphant arrival in the 2016 Marvel movie Captain America: Civil War. Shortly after the young actor reprised his role as Peter Parker in the character’s first solo outing under the Marvel umbrella, Spider-Man: Homecoming, which grossed an incredible $1.132 billion worldwide. Capitalising on this success, Marvel released a sequel, Far From Home, with a third on its way to cinema screens on December 17, 2021.
The Hollywood Reporter announced Jamie Foxx will be reprising his role as Electro in the upcoming third Spidey movie.
Fans of the franchise will recall Foxx played the electrifying foe in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – which starred Andrew Garfield as the titular character.
At the end of the movie Electro was defeated by the web-head, but huge hints pointing towards the Sinister Six were dropped after the credits.
Unfortunately for Garfield and Foxx, this was the final Spider-Man film in Sony’s second attempt at creating a franchise around the character without Marvel’s help.
With Sony and Marvel now working in tandem, the reintroduction of Electro with Foxx behind the mask could be the beginning of a live-action Spider-Verse.
The concept of multiple dimensions with many version of the same character was first introduced in Sony’s most recent Spider-Man film, 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The animated film was hugely successful, grossing $375.5 million worldwide, and even garnering an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
With audiences eager to see more of the Spider-Verse narrative, the upcoming third Marvel Spider-Man film may usher in former web-slingers Garfield and Tobey Maguire back to the silver screen.
Putting three Spider-Men in one story would be a huge step for the franchise, as it would bring the cinematic continuity in line with the comic books – which regularly delve into the multiple-Spider-Man shtick.
With no word on Maguire or Garfield signing up the the film just yet, fans will simply have to wait and hope to see the three heroes unite on screen.
As more actors sign on to the ongoing Avengers films, Thor star Chris Hemsworth recently spoke out about whether he was ready to hang up his hammer.
Thor saw big changes in his character in Avengers: Endgame, as the character gained weight, lost his self-esteem, and struggled to deal with the loss of his friends.
Eventually he pulled himself back together, battling alongside the rest of the Avengers to take down Thanos (Josh Brolin).

A fourth Thor film is on the way, and is due to reintroduce Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) as Lady Thor.
With this in mind, Elle Man asked Hemsworth if he was going to be giving up his role as the God of Thunder anytime soon.
To which he responded: “Are you crazy? I’m not going into any retirement period”.
Hemsworth added: “Thor is far too young for that. He’s only 1,500 years old.”
Hemsworth went on to clarify: “It’s definitely not a film that I say goodbye to this brand. At least I hope so.”
Thor’s upcoming film – Thor: Love and Thunder – is not due for release until 2022, so the state of the Avengers may have changed drastically by then.
By the time the next Thor film arrives in cinemas, he may even be competing with three Spider-Men in the new and improved superhero team.
Spider-Man 3 is due to release December 17, 2021.
