All four seasons of the USA Network series Queen of the South are currently available to watch on Netflix. However, international subscribers previously had to wait a year for new instalments to become available for streaming. Script supervisor Barry Caldwell recently took to Facebook to suggest this may not be the case for the next season.

The script supervisor for the fourth and fifth seasons of Queen of the South has assured international fans they may not have to wait so long for the next season to hit Netflix.

A recent trailer has confirmed drug lord Teresa Mendoza (played by Alice Braga) will be returning to screens in April on the USA Network.

However, viewers outside of the US are bracing themselves for a lengthy wait for the new season to become available overseas.

The series usually premieres on Netflix roughly a year after Queen’s initial release in the States.

With more news of the upcoming premiere coming on Monday, script doctor Barry Caldwell recently posted in a Facebook fan page to assure fans this hopefully won’t be the case for season five.

He wrote: “Regarding Netflix and non-US broadcast TV, we have no idea.

“In the first four seasons, we hit Netflix one year after the TV premiere. That would normally put the Netflix premiere in April 2022.

“HOWEVER, we are trying to get it pulled up sooner. This is all we know at the present time.”

For fans outside the US, another year’s hiatus sounds like a bleak concept, especially as the series’ production was already hit with extensive delays amid the outbreak of coronavirus.

Thankfully, it appears producers on the show are currently lobbying for Netflix to pick up the next season much sooner this time round.

Fans immediately took to the comments to voice their support for the plan, having waited well over a year since the series’ fourth season finale back in August 2019.

One British fan replied: “I have everything crossed here. Thanks for the update and well done to the whole cast and crew!”

“April 2022 for non-US broadcast is way too far,” another added. “Cannot wait until then.”

Finally, a third viewer said: “Oh please no! I can’t wait until next year for it to be shown on Netflix.

“Might have to move over to America for a year.”

Caldwell then reminded viewers that there are still other methods of watching the new series outside the US.

He added: “If you can’t wait for the free Netflix release, each episode will be available for purchase on iTunes, YouTube and Amazon shortly after airing on USA.”

Fans can also purchase physical copies of each season, though in the UK a single season on DVD currently costs between £30-40.

Plus, as each instalment is slapped with a £12-14.99 price tag to stream on Amazon, this method may prove too costly for viewers who would prefer to wait for Teresa’s return to Netflix.

In addition to the exciting release news, the supervisor also teased a final release date and an extended trailer for Queen of the South season five coming next Monday.

Queen of the South season 4 is available to stream on Netflix.
