It would be the ultimate salt in the wound if Depp loses the role that made him a global superstar and his ex-wife somehow took over. The actor has already been very publicly dropped from his other major franchise. Earlier this month, Warner Bros announced it had asked him to withdraw from the Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them movies where he was playing the main villain Gellert Grindelwald.
The current implosion of Depp’s career is due to the collapse of his marriage to Heard amid very public accusations of domestic abuse.,
When a UK newspaper referred to the actor as a “wife beater” he took them to court for defamation. The world and, most importantly for his career, Hollywood studios watched very closely as a UK court found that there was enough evidence to justify the slur and Depp lost the case.
He swiftly also lost his Fantastic Beasts role and his future as Captain Jack Sparrow now looks dire.
In yet another blow, today the UK judge also denied Depp’s appeal against teh sentence and ordered him to pay enormous costs.
Mr Justice Nicole, who presided over the case in July, said earlier today: “I do not consider that the proposed grounds of appeal have a reasonable prospect of success.”
Depp was instructed to pay almost £630,000 in legal fees to the defendants, The Sun’s publishers, New Group Newspapers.
Each further development worsens Depp’s standing in Hollywood and his chances of ever returning to the Pirates franchise.
The latest reports that his ex-wife is in talks with new Pirates of the Caribbean star Margot Robbie to come on board will be a bitter blow and will reignite Depp’s supporters’ anger at Heard.
A petition from Depp fans to Warner Bros demanding the studio drops Heard from her role as Mera in the Aquaman franchise has already amassed over one million signatures.
However, it seems that while her ex faces public and professional censure, the actress’ career is going from strength to strength.
Not only are there rumours that WB is exploring a potential Mera spin-off, now a new report is claiming she could actually join the upcoming “femalecentric” Pirates reboot.

Industry commentator Daniel Richter was reported by We Got This Covered breaking the latest Amber Heard Pirates of the Caribbean reports:
It said: “The 34-year-old has spoken to Margot Robbie about a potential role in the upcoming spinoff that’s said to have an abundance of girl power.
“It’s unclear if the actress has had talks with the studio just yet about it, or if she’s only discussed it with the Birds of Prey star at this stage.”
