Outlander season three featured the much-anticipated reunion between Claire Fraser (played by Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) after 20 years apart. However, the moment fans loved was not as easy for the stars of the show, with Heughan revealing what he found difficult about it to film.

Why did Sam Heughan find Jamie and Claire’s reunion difficult to film?

As soon as Jamie sent Claire back through the stones to her present day, viewers were desperate for the pair to be reunited.

Fans will remember how Jamie forced Claire to go back to her own time when she was pregnant with their daughter Brianna Fraser.

Fearing she would be in danger with the upcoming Battle of Culloden on the cards, he made her promise to leave.

Claire agreed and went back to Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies) before raising their daughter in the 1950s and 1960s.

The star also went on to discuss how they needed a lot to be conveyed in the episode, as well as just their reunion.

He added: “We wanted to show that they fall back very quickly into that initial passion for each other, that initial love and lust.

“But then over time they quickly realize that they’ve become different people, and it is awkward, and it is almost teenage-like, nervous and exciting. It’s fun to watch them rediscover each other.”

Regardless of the difficulties, the scene and episode are sure to be one of fans’ favourite moments in the whole show so far.

Outlander seasons 1 to 5 are available to stream on Amazon’s Prime Video.
