Hello, party people! If you’ve already buzzed through every episode of The Politician season 2, you’re definitely not alone. The season follows Payton and co. as they work to win him his first real political office, and there are plenty of twists and turns to keep you watching. If you’re already craving more Politician, we’re here to help with that. Here’s everything we know about a potential third season of the hit show.
First things first, is it happening?
Basically, yes! Creator Ryan Murphy has an overall deal with Netflix, and The Politician falls under that. Originally, there was talk that the show would get five full seasons and each would follow Payton on a different race during his quest for the White House. Now, it seems like that might not be the case.
Murphy addressed it in an interview earlier this year. “I think for me, for that show, I would like to do, and I think all of us involved in it, would probably like to do three seasons total,” he said. Okay, so we’ll probably get at least one more, but it looks like it’ll be the last.
Okay, great. But when can we expect it??
Another great question! Obviously most productions are on hold right now, but that might not really impact this show anyways, for unrelated reasons. Here’s what Murphy had to say about that. [There’s a hint of a spoiler ahead btw, so if you haven’t finished the season, maybe skip this quote!]
“And I think where season two ends, what I would love to do is take a couple of years off and have Ben Platt get a little bit older for his final race,” Murphy said. “That would obviously be a presidential race, right? That’s always what we had designed, and I think that’s what our plan is. I’m going to wait. Ben is young, so I want to wait a couple of years to figure out how we age him up a little bit. But that’s always been my plan.”
So basically, due to the plot of S2, they might take a major break before they shoot S3. Got it.
Okay, so do we know who’s returning?
Not yet! But based on the above quote, we know for sure Ben Platt will be there. Some of the people from S1 didn’t really make it into S2 (like Ricardo, for example, only had one scene in S2), so it’s possible that’ll happen with the next season, too, and some people just won’t make the cut. Good luck to all the actors involved!
Great, so what should I do in the meantime?
Well, Murphy just released another show on Netflix called Hollywood. You should watch it!
