Has Narcos Mexico season 3 been confirmed?

Fans have been eagerly awaiting any news about the future of Narcos Mexico since the second season dropped on Netflix.

Ending with the arrest of Gallardo, the finale also teased the show would be returning with a new focus on Amado Carrillo Fuentes (José María Yazpik).

As well as this, showrunner Eric Newman teased to The Hollywood Reporter how he had much more planned.

Back in February, he said: “As I always say, we’ll go on as long as they let us and as long as the drug war rages – which, as you know, there is no end in sight.

“But I would be lying if I said I hadn’t put quite a bit of thought into where we would go.

“I’ve always had a pretty fair idea at where we end up. That’s about all I can say about season three.

“But it’s definitely something that we’re actively discussing internally.”

As a result, it was all looking positive for the future of the Netflix series.

However, the streaming giant has not officially renewed the show yet, three months later.

Now, there seems to finally be some news about the future of the series after one of the stars revealed they had started filming.

In a recent cover story for Rolling Stone magazine, Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny (Benito Ocasio) was speaking about life in lockdown.

During the interview, he was asked about what he was doing before lockdown began back in February.

He revealed how he had just released his second album before he was whisked away to Mexico to film Narcos Mexico in February.

According to the publication, he will be starring as a supporting actor in the Netflix crime series.

However, shooting on the show was shut down due to the pandemic.

This seems to suggest Narcos Mexico will be returning for a third season given filming seems to have already begun.

Netflix declined to comment on whether filming had begun to Express.co.uk.

There has been no confirmation yet about who Benito Ocasio will be playing yet but it seems like more Narcos is on its way.

In terms of other cast members so far, star Diego Luna has confirmed he will not be returning.

When asked if he would ever return he told Indiewire: “I don’t know. Not for now, not for now, no, no, no. At the beginning it was fun, but then it became really heavy for me.

“It’s strong material and I love the way the series shoots for quite a long time because you manage to do great stuff and you’re not in a hurry.
