Keke Palmer is many things: an actor, singer, Broadway darling, meme queen. And, when she landed a cohosting role for Good Morning America‘s third hour block, Strahan, Sara and Keke, last year, she also added TV’s newest personality to that list.
In our latest episode of Little Black Book, BAZAAR.com‘s spring cover star walks us through her behind-the-scenes journey in landing a place at one of the country’s most well-known and beloved morning shows.
“It’s so interesting how I started doing Strahan, Sara and Keke,” Palmer says. “When I was 20, I hosted a talk show of my own called Just Keke. … I never necessarily saw me doing a show like Strahan, Sara and Keke in the future. I just knew that that was going to be the beginning of a whole new aspect of creativity for me.”
Palmer initially appeared on the show as the guest of cohosts Michael Strahan and Sara Haines. Eventually, as Haines prepared to go on maternity leave, the show considered Palmer as a guest host and then as a full-time addition.
Rory Albanese, SSK‘s executive producer, says of hiring Palmer, “I looked at this whole thing almost like casting a sitcom, which is just about getting different energies on the couch and having different perspectives. I felt like she brought a different perspective that you don’t really see too much in daytime and she’s crazy talented. She can do a lot of things.”
