Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat, even for Nini, who is now enrolled in a performing arts high school. Season 2 of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series brought new adventures and new songs for these theater nerds.

Disney+ premiered its second season of ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’

They’re all in this together. When Disney+ debuted in 2019, it included the first episode of the mockumentary, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Over a year later, the first episode of season 2 debuted on Disney’s streaming platform.

This season features returning characters, like Ricky (Joshua Bassett) and Nini (Olivia Rodrigo), now onto different adventures. Nini enrolled in a performing arts high school, while the other students of East High School prepared for their spring musical — Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

How many episodes are in ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ season 2?

For several Disney+ original shows, including High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 1 and Marvel’s WandaVision season 1, there are 10 episodes. However, season 2 of this mockumentary is expected to have more episodes.

According to The Cinemaholic, “the second season comprises 12 episodes, with each one having a runtime of 30 minutes.” The first of these episodes premiered in May 2021 after it was postponed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

What makes ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ season 2 different from season 1?

Sure, the cast of East High is putting on a different musical and competing in the Menkie Awards. However, there are other aspects of season 2 that make it different from the show’s first season. That includes some new characters that are stepping into the spotlight.

“We came into Season 2 feeling like, what can we do better? What can we do bigger? But how can we stay true to our Waiting for Guffman, Christopher Guest roots?” series creator Tim Federle said during an interview with Decider. “It starts with the cast. Then the writer’s room, there was a real investment made.”

“It’s a largely female writers room largely made up of women of color, and the voices and authenticity and truth that these incredible writers brought to the table every day I think really made their way on screen, which was intentional because I wanted to see Dara [Reneé] step into the limelight, as she should,” he continued. “And have a character who isn’t only defined by her relationship to Nini, for instance.”
