Good Girls season four, which follows a trio of mothers who turn to the world of money-laundering for their own personal reasons, is currently in the making for NBC and Netflix. Beth Boland (played by Christina Hendricks) was appointed leader of the group and crossed paths with another gang leader, Rio (Manny Montana). The pair have shared some heated moments and viewers are continuing to ask whether they will ever form a romantic relationship.

Will Beth and Rio ever end up as a couple?

Beth and Rio first met in season one of Good Girls, after Beth and her friends had robbed Annie Marks’s (Mae Whitman) grocery store.

Beth, Annie and their friend Ruby Hill (Retta) ended up working for Rio and he had a hold over them, dragging them further into his schemes.

Rio coined the nickname ‘Red’ for Beth, and she clearly started to develop an infatuation with him, despite going through a turbulent marriage with Dean (Matthew Lillard).

In season two Beth and Rio developed a short sexual relationship, and it resulted in Beth being unable to fix things with husband Dean.

Despite their sexual encounters, Beth and Rio continued to make it their mission to destroy one another, with Rio blackmailing Beth towards the end of season two.

By the end of the second season, Beth was adamant she wanted Rio out of her life, and she ended up double-crossing him during a mission and shot him twice.

Beth assumed she had finally got rid of Rio, but fans were shocked to see him return with a vengeance in season three, where Beth once again attempted to assassinate him.

Fans of the series have coined the phrase ‘Brio’ when talking about the pair, as many would love to see their relationship develop further.

However, others are not huge fans of the cat-and-mouse game, saying there is no way Beth and Rio could end up together, as they are completely different characters.

Actor Montana has already said Beth and Rio will be forced to work closely together in the upcoming season four, so there is bound to be plenty more tension between them.

Montana has said himself that he did not want to see any more romance between Beth and Rio, but some fans think otherwise.

Kimmicake took to Reddit to say they would not want to see a relationship form between the pair, saying: “I would never fall for Rio or any man like him IRL, and he’s not what I consider a ****boy, either.

“But this is a show – a crime fantasy show. I think, in the context of the show, there’s a mutual attraction and fascination between the 2 characters, and each of them are wondering how far the other person can go. They enjoy driving the other to their limit.

“Also, in the context of the show, I think they COULD become the Bonnie & Clyde people romanticize but wouldn’t actually ever root for IRL. Applying norms to their relationship just doesn’t make sense to me, since it’s not normal to be a ringleader of a crime syndicate nor for suburban women to enter said crime syndicate.” [sic]

Another fan stressed she was rooting for the relationship because it was a fantasy show, and anything is possible for the unlikely couple.

Beth and Rio’s partnership is most certainly not a typical one, with Beth being dragged into a world of crime that she knows nothing about, and Rio having been in the game for such a long time.

Some viewers have called Rio a ‘wild card’, suggesting his feelings for Beth could go either way in the upcoming season.

Supporters of ‘Brio’ have said attempting to normalise Beth and Rio’s relationship is a mistake, with the show being fantasy enough without the addition of Rio and Beth.

VWD101 said: “Though I’ll say gang members have families too, normal families. I feel not one ounce of guilt in loving these two and I’m not alone.

“The bad boy good girl trope has been told countless of times but there’s nothing like Brio currently on television.”

The creators of the series have previously said they could not ignore the tension between Beth and Rio, and the chemistry between them will continue to evolve into season four.

Some fans think Rio is only pretending to have romantic feelings for Beth so he can use her to his advantage in his money-making schemes.

Janinasheart said: “I think intrigued is a good word to describe his feelings for her. He’s definitely using her and I can’t wait to see where the writers take his character.

“I hope he remains a wild card – is he gonna her or her over? Their cat and mouse game is what makes the show amazing and unique in my opinion.”

At the end of season three Beth had agreed to work with Rio again in order to win him back on her side and she was keen to make more money.

But she and her friends hired another assassin to take down Rio, and they were waiting to find out if the deed had been done.

Rio will definitely be back for season four, so fans will be keen to find out how Rio proceeds to take advantage of Beth in the new season.

Beth met Rio’s ex-wife Rhea (Jackie Cruz) in season three and some fans have suggested Rio is using his ex to manipulate Beth and weaken her.
