Giovanni Pernice has been a favourite of the professional dancers on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing since his first series in 2015, where he danced his way to the final and came second with actress Georgia May Foote. The 2020 series saw him partnered with television presenter and journalist Ranvir Singh, and rumours of a romance between the two have been circulating ever since.
Speaking on Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch, Giovanni addressed the gossip surrounding the pair.
Steph McGovern asked him: “Did you enjoy dancing with Ranvir?” to which the 30-year-old choreographer replied: “Loved it, absolutely loved it.
“I think she really, really developed as a dancer but also the confidence just grows very much. So was very pleased with the journey.”
Steph then asked, with a smile: “And you still keep in touch with her?”
The dancer agreed enthusiastically, replying: “100 percent yes. It’s pointless you know [to not] be in touch after you spend what, 10 hours in the studio together for three months so yeah, definitely keep in touch.”
Steph later touched on the stories the pair are an item, saying: “And there was a few rumours doing the rounds.
“You often see the headlines about a “potential romance” between you but… that’s not true is it?”
Giovanni didn’t confirm or deny a relationship between the two, however he commented: “Yeah I mean, there’s always going to be rumours you know, and I always say that if there is rumours it’s okay because it means that what we’re doing just arrives home because dancing is acting.
“So if we’re doing the Rhumba and doing the Argentine Tango, and people are thinking that we are together, it means that we are doing something right you know?
“Again, dancing is acting so we need to develop and we need to give the people what they want.”
Giovanni and Ranvir just missed out on the 2020 final after facing Jamie Laing and Karen Hauer in the dance-off.
The pair sparked rumours of a potential romance quickly, with Giovanni seen kissing Ranvir on the forehead after their Viennese Waltz.

The Good Morning Britain presenter had been separated from her husband long before appearing on Strictly.
A couple of Giovanni and Ranvir’s raunchy dances increased speculation amongst fans of the show after their chemistry was demonstrated on the dance floor.
Viewers called for the pair to get together, taking to social media to discuss the seemingly blossoming romance.
But both have since denied claims of a relationship.
Steph also addressed Ranvir’s appearance on today’s Good Morning Britain, which she presented the show alongside Susanna Reid following Piers Morgan’s sudden departure from the morning show.
Piers quit presenting the programme on Tuesday after 41,000 complaints were received by Ofcom in response to his comments regarding Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Steph said to Giovanni: “And of course she [Ranvir] was on the telly this morning replacing Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain, were you watching that?”
Giovanni sung Ranvir’s praises, replying: “I was watching that 100 percent. I’m happy for her, because you know, she’s brilliant at what she does.”
Strictly Come Dancing is due to return to BBC One in the autumn, while Steph’s Packed Lunch airs weekdays at 12:30pm on Channel 4.
