BBC Breakfast: Louise Minchin and Jon Kay open the show
France imposed a UK travel ban for 48 hours on Sunday following the emergence of a new variant of Covid-19. Travel Secretary Grant Shapps appeared on BBC Breakfast to discuss the ban as Louise Minchin quizzed him on the possibility of disruption to supplies but BBC Breakfast viewers weren’t impressed with the presenter’s line of questioning.
Minchin repeatedly questioned Shapps on the likelihood the UK’s food supplies could be impacted by the ban.
Shapps stressed these were uncertain times regardless of France’s actions but viewers felt Minchin’s words could lead to some panic buying.
One tweeted: “@BBCBreakfast wow! The aggression in Louise Minchin’s interviewing is disgusting! She can’t blame the government outright for France’s action yet is behaving as though she actually hates Grant Shapps. Get a grip BBC!!”
Someone else said: “@BBCBreakfast Louise asking about haulier delays and a need to stock up as a result. Really? Is that responsible journalism? Put panic in the minds of idiots likely to respond in exactly that way.”

A third asked: “@louiseminchin can he guarantee everyone gets what they want for Christmas? That’s not a question anyone should be able to answer at the moment. Think @grantshapps answered very clearly there. Let’s try to pinpoint this disruption on #COVID19 and not Boris as usual.”
“FFS @louiseminchin desperate to get a scare story going. Keeps interrupting Grant Shapps to get onto her own agenda,” another shared.
However, other viewers praised Minchin’s interview and slammed Shapps for avoiding her questions.
One tweeted: “Well done Louise, excellent questioning of Grant Shapps this morning without being rude and interrupting.
Another added: “@louiseminchin how do you keep your cool when @grantshapps won’t answer the questions you ask??!!”
