Emmerdale fans confused as Jimmy takes blame for 2006 death of Dawn Hope

Emmerdale fans were left confused on Thursday after Jimmy King (Nick Miles) took responsibility for the death of Bob Hope's (Tony Audenshaw) daughter Dawn in 2006.

Dawn (who was played by Julia Mallam) died after a viewing of the King's River show home, as she sustained internal injuries due to an explosion caused by a gas leak.

Viewers were left wondering why Jimmy would confess to the accident, as he wasn't the direct cause of it.

"Oh! This is why Jimmy has been feeling all this guilt," said one viewer.

Another tweeted: "Hang on why is Jimmy torturing himself by talking about the 2006 house collapse again?"

A third wrote: "15 years on and Jimmy has said sorry to Bob over the explosion that killed Dawn."

Someone else added: "Jimmy didn't know the house was going to explode so how was it his fault?"

While a fifth added: "Jimmy it wasn't you it was Sadie."

Back in the summer of 2006, Jimmy's ex-wife Sadie (Patsy Kensit) ordered Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), with whom she'd been having an affair, to mess with the King's River show home.

It caused damage to the gas pipes, which Jimmy knew about – which may be why he is taking blame now.

At the time, he had been worried that delaying the grand opening would have to be delayed, so rushed the repair process planning to do a better job later on.

But the gas pipe caused an explosion at the show home, leading to the deaths of three characters, including Bob's daughter Dawn.

She survived the initial collapse however died of her injuries in hospital later, leaving dad Bob devastated.

The other characters to die were Noreen Bell and minor character David Brown, who was an estate agent showing guests around the property.

Afterwards, the King family helped cover up Jimmy's involvement in the incident.

Years later, Jimmy is feeling guilty all over again after he crashed his truck into a barn, causing another explosion which eventually killed evil Paul (Reece Dinsdale).

Since then, Jimmy has been really struggling with his guilt, while his loved ones try to stress it was just an accident.

On Thursday night, he told Bob: "I said what I did because I had to, to protect dad and Carl. But I wanted nothing of it – I swear, I wanted nothing of it. I'm so sorry, Bob.

"It's been killing me slowly ever since. I should have taken responsibility, because we were responsible. I was responsible for Dawn and I'm so, so sorry."

Will Jimmy get past this?
