EastEnders' Jessica Plummer up for Best Actress at Inside Soap Awards but Coronation Street abuse plot leads nominations

CORONATION Street is leading the pack at the Inside Soap Awards after leaving viewers mesmerised and horrified by the Yasmeen and Geoff abuse plot.

The ITV soap is up for Best Show-Stopper, Best Villain and Best Actor for Ian Bartholomew and Best Actress for star Shelley King at the awards, which will air virtually for the first time next week.

However, Shelley will face stiff competition from EastEnders' Jessica Plummer, who has also been nominated for Best Actress following her character Chantelle Atkins' murder by her abusive husband Gray.

Also nominated for the Best Actress award are Hollyoaks' Jennifer Metcalfe (Mercedes McQueen) and Emmerdale's Natalie J Robb (Moira Dingle).

Battling it out for Best Actor is Hollyoaks Ashley Taylor Dawson (Darren Osborne), Emmerdale's Jeff Hordley (Cain Dingle), EastEnders' Max Bowden (Ben Mitchell) and Corrie's Ian Bartholomew (Geoff Metcalfe).

Corrie star Ian has also been nominated in the Best Villain category.

The Geoff Metcalfe actor goes up against Hollyoaks' Bobby Gordon (Toby Faroe), Emmerdale star Mark Womack (DI Mark Malone) and EastEnders' Toby Alexander Smith (Gray Atkins).

Away from the soap's most villainous characters, Emmerdale's Lisa Riley (Mandy Dingle) is up for Funniest Performance.

The Loose Women star will battle it out against Hollyoaks' Jessamy Stoddart (Liberty Savage), EastEnders star Lorraine Stanley (Karen Taylor) and Corrie veteran Maureen Lipman (Evelyn Plummer) in the category.

Meanwhile, the Best Partnership category sees several popular pairings nominated, including; Hollyoaks Imran Adams and Ross Adams (Mitchell Deveraux & Scott Drinkwell) as well as EastEnders duo Kellie Bright and Danny Dyer (Linda and Mick Carter).

Emmerdale's Lucy Pargeter and Dominic Brunt (Paddy Kirk and Chas Dingle) and Coronation Street's Dolly-Rose Campbell and Sam Aston (Gemma Winter and Chesney Brown) are also up for the honour.

This year's Best Show-Stopper category includes the moment Corrie's Yasmeen finally fought back against her abusive husband with a broken bottle.

Other show-stopping moments nominated include Emmerdale's Cain learning Nate was his long-lost son during their violent confrontation.

While EastEnders dramatic riverboat disaster to celebrate its 35th Anniversary is up for the award alongside the moment Hollyoaks' serial killer Breda McQueen finally got her comeuppance.
