Scared of The Dark Episode One preview
As the host of the latest celebrity reality show Scared of the Dark Danny Dyer has to remain impartial, however, he has revealed he and contestant Paul Gasgoine have somewhat of a mutual fandom. Although he did once refuse a request from the former England player.
“I’ve met him a couple of times at a couple of football matches, he’s always been a fan of mine, like I’m a fan of his,” the former EastEnders star revealed.
“He did an interview once and he said that if they do a film, that he’d want me to play him, which I had to tell him that there’s no way in the f****** world I’m going to do the Geordie accent, you know?” the cockney actor continued.
“But I was very touched and quite honoured, actually, that he would want me to play him.
“I’m 45 now, so I don’t know if I’d play a younger Paul. But the fact I was even in his thoughts humbles me,” he said.

Prior to joining EastEnders, Danny was one of the UK’s brightest film stars.
Specialising in “hard man” roles he starred in films such as Human Traffic, Mean Machine and The Football Factory.
Prior to joining the BBC soap he had an impressive 37 film credits under his belt.
Therefore, it’s easy to see why Paul would have wanted him to play him.
He was understandably delighted to see that Danny was involved in the show.
However, he was less than impressed to learn he was the host rather than a contestant, which led to him almost quitting.
“He thought I was going in there. And so, one of the reasons why he signed up is I said I’m doing it,” Danny revealed. “He didn’t know I was the host.
“So, when he walked into the bunker and I was standing there in the light, he goes, ‘Ah, it’s going to be fine.’

“And I went, ‘No, I’m not doing it…I’m just going to put you in. I’m the host!
“And he was like, ‘Ah, f****** hell, I don’t know if I want to do it now.’
“And I said, ‘Well, you can always walk out.’ And he said, ‘Yeah, but I’ve already paid the agent!’”
“I said, ‘Well, you’re f***** then, ain’t you?!’” Danny revealed.
The show sees eight celebrities live, eat and sleep all in complete darkness.
Running across the five nights the well-known faces will live in a bunker and be expected to endure the mounting psychological pressures of light deprivation, while partaking in challenges.
If they fail, they lose their privileges, but if they win, they get treats and coveted time in the light.
“When the lights go down, it goes dark, oh my God, it really hits them,” Danny said.
Scared Of The Dark begins tonight on Channel 4 at 9pm and will run every night until Thursday.
