Corrie stars reveal weird experiences returning to set as filming resumes

Coronation Street stars Jane Danson and Ben Price have revealed how they’ve adapted to the new social distancing measures after returning to set as the soap resumes filming.

The ITV serial drama was forced to shut down amid the coronavirus pandemic back in March, but filming has resumed once more.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk about returning to set, actor Ben Price — who portrays Nick Tilsley — said: ‘It’s split into two. The pre-bit before you’re on set. John [Whiston] and the team have done an extraordinary job.

‘On the set you’re back in home turf – the only bit that was weird was losing the physical part.

‘Jane was doing an incredible job in a scene, beautifully played and my instinct as Nick was to give her a hug. But we found a way through it. We have a fantastic, big story – but we had ten scenes and we flew along it was nice.

‘Part of my job is very social – for a job I am emotional with people, that’s the essence of my job.

‘You need people to do that – if I don’t have it then it doesn’t feel like it works. But once we understood when we can move – that’s what an actor has to do anyway – so to do an extra bit on a Monday, we found a way. I miss everyone really.’

Jane Danson — who plays Leanne Tilsley — added: ‘What also helps is Ben and I have worked together 10 years so we know and trust each other.

‘We were very keen to get going again as we had to pause suddenly so it was exciting too.

‘Once we worked a few things out, it wasn’t much different except being unable to physically touch but we replaced that with looks as we can read each other as actors.

‘The crew’s job is much different and they’ve adapted brilliantly – we’re a family, hand on heart, and I think we’re closer than ever before as a team.’

Coronation Street continues Wednesday 10 June at 7:30pm on ITV.
