Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) has been manipulating and messing with Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) in Coronation Street, but Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) soon discovers the truth.
Paul has got in too deep with a young lad from the helpline, and Todd knows all about it — given that it’s all part of his elaborate scheme to break up Paul and Billy!
Paul has refrained from telling Billy about his repeated attempts to help this caller — a young man named Will — but ultimately he struggles to keep shtum, and therefore decides to tell his beau everything.
However, Todd makes him promise to keep his name out of it.
Paul then returns home and confesses everything to a shocked Billy, who feels betrayed that he not only kept this information from him, but that Todd knew about it when he didn’t.
In fact, actor Daniel Brocklebank reckons that the moment in question is something of an eye-opener for Billy.
‘In a weird way it’s opened Billy’s eyes up to Paul, Daniel told Metro.co.uk. ‘He’s upset that he’s been confiding in Todd and not Billy, he feels really betrayed by that. He tells him he’s foolish for letting him in as much as he is.
‘Billy knows Todd. He knows what he’s capable of. Billy lets his guard down because he’s very forgiving and he’s trying to find the good in everyone in every situation. Maybe foolishly so.’
Since Todd returned to the cobbles, viewers have been wondering if Billy could find himself reunited with his former flame.
But what does Daniel reckon? Paul or Todd?
‘They both cause Billy problems. Todd was more fun, Paul whinges a lot and Billy has to save him a lot. It feels very parental which isn’t good in a relationship. I think he would be happier with Todd.
‘He might be happier without either of them. There are a lot more gays in Manchester than just those two!’
