Corrie reassures fans that Eccles the dog isn't really dead

The nation wept last night as Ken Barlow’s (William Roache) beloved pet dog Eccles passed away in Coronation Street.

Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) revealed to Emma (Alexandra Mardell) that he thought Eccles was looking a bit unwell.

Emma took the dog to the vets, and she learned that Eccles had a tumour.

The vet suggested an operation, but he later clarified that the tumour had now spread, and therefore recommend that the dog be put to sleep.

Emma bid adieu to the beloved dog — reminding him how lucky he was to have had so many amazing people in his life.

Viewers were devastated as Eccles breathed his last breath, and poor Emma was left to inform the entire Barlow clan about the legendary dog’s passing in emotional scenes.

In an attempt to cheer the nation up following the devastating scenes, Coronation Street reminded viewers via their official Twitter account that the two dogs who portrayed Eccles were alive and well.

Coronation Street continues Friday April 10 at 7:30pm on ITV.
