Coronation Street’s Eileen Grimshaw star Sue Cleaver leaves fans distracted with new look

Eileen (played by Sue Cleaver) is one of Coronation Street’s most beloved characters, having now spent 20 years on the cobbles and she is still finding herself embroiled in numerous storylines. Whilst the mother-of-two is still featuring in episodes of the ITV soap, actress Sue, 56, is taking a break from filming due to the show shutting down production to combat the spread of coronavirus. Appearing on Good Morning Britain today, the soap star looked very different because of a new hairdo, which left viewers very distracted.

To mark the landmark anniversary of her time on the show, Sue joined chat show presenter Lorraine Kelly, 60, to discuss her time on the show.

Although much of the interview was about the cobbles-based drama, the host couldn’t end the interview without speaking about the actress’s new pink locks.

The star said she had always wanted to do something different with her hair and whilst she’s not filming, she has decided to change the colour.

Fans of the weeknight drama are used to seeing the beloved character sporting a blond getup, so were left distracted by her appearance on the ITV news show.

Another added on the social media platform: “Eileens hair, best I’ve ever seen it. Lady beetle really suits her #Lorraine.”

Whilst a third commented: “Love Love Love @Sue_Cleaver and her lockdown hair. It really really suits her. I agree with @lorraine That she just looks fantastic. I need some tips #suecleaver #corrie #lorraine.”

“@Sue_Cleaver wow you look amazing. Love your hair,” a fourth posted, to which a fifth asked: “@Sue_Cleaver what colour did you use on your hair? I love it.”

The actress first unveiled her new look on social media a couple of weeks ago, taking to Twitter for the debut.

Posting a picture of herself with the pink hair do, the soap star told her 69,5000 followers: “As Eileen is locked in the prop cupboard for the foreseeable, thought I’d dabble with the hair dye.”

Some of her current and former co-stars responded to the colour change and like fans, were in awe of the pink getup.

Speaking with The Mirror, she said: “I originally said I’d stay about a year, but the place is so seductive.”

  • Coronation Street fans furious over Eileen Grimshaw error

“Everybody knows an Eileen. She’s every woman, she’s down to earth, level-headed and loyal. She’s a great friend, but cr*p at everything else,” the actress added.

Over the years, Eileen has said goodbye to her sons Todd Grimshaw (Bruno Langley) and Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas), as well as having countless doomed relationships.

However, it seems having the Rovers Return just around the corner has been a saving grace for the character, as Sue told Inside Soap: “I absolutely love those scenes.”

With coronavirus set to change the way the cast film the scenes, the soap star added: “That’s one thing that’s changed, there’s not so many of those any more and I love them.”

Coronation Street continues tonight at 7:30pm on ITV.
