Coronation Street: When was Emmerdale actor Joe Gilgun in Coronation Street?

Coronation Street has had to half the number of episodes every week due to the outbreak of coronavirus. The ITV drama is currently postponing filming to stop the spread of the virus and so rather than six episodes a week, there are just three instalments currently being aired on the weekdays. But this doesn’t mean the amount of drama in Weatherfield has reduced.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Coronation Street.

Earlier this year, Coronation Street aired its 10,000th episode which paid tribute to many of the characters who have been and gone from the soap over the years, as well as the show’s very first instalment which aired back in 1960.
During the anniversary episode though, veteran resident of Corrie Ken Barlow (played by William Roache) came to a major decision.
He thought it was about time for him to leave his home of six decades so he could move to retirement complex Still Waters with new girlfriend Claudia (xx).
However, if he thought this was going to mean him getting away from petty problems then he had another thing coming.

Since moving to Still Waters, he has found himself a new nemesis in the shape of chairman Charles Lake (Michael Elwyn).
Not only did he make Ken pay an extortionate amount for cleaning a carpet when dog Eccles peed on it, he has been charging the other residents for things which they do not need to pay for, going against the complex’s handbook and lining his own pockets.
But when he had heard Charles had been bad mouthing Eccles who had sadly died of a tumour the day before, Ken had enough and was ready to take the corrupt residents’ chairman down by standing for office himself.
And after obtaining the handbook to prove that Charles has been making people pay for more than they have to, Ken could have a good chance of taking over the position.

When was actor Joe Gilgun in Coronation Street?

Ken had been married to his on and off wife Deirdre Barlow (Anne Kirkbride) for many years before she died of a brain aneurysm in 2015.
Long-term fans of Coronation Street will remember Deirdre was a friend to many over the years but one person whom she befriended in the early 90s was Tricia Armstrong (Tracy Brabin).
She was brought into the show after her son Jamie (Joe Gilgun) was caught shoplifting at BettaBuy.
Actor Gilgun’s first-ever acting role was in Coronation Street when he was just 11-years-old in 1994.

Jamie was seen as a young bad boy during his time on the show, getting into trouble and was usually the first suspect when things went wrong.
Even when he saw Josie Clarke’s (Ellie Haddington) bike being stolen by a thief and he had tried to stop them, Percy Sugden (Bill Waddington) accused him of being the culprit despite actually trying to help.
However, Jamie always tried to look after his mum so when was sent to prison for not paying her TV licence, he ran away from his foster home back to their old flats.
Thankfully, while Tricia was away, Deirdre kept an eye on Jamie to make sure he was fine.
In 1997, when Tricia was out of prison, she had met decorator Ray Thorpe (Chris Walker), whom she and Jamie left the cobbles with to start a new life together.
