Coronation Street fans have been left disturbed by the soap’s latest storyline centring around character Daniel Osbourne.

The character, played by actor Rob Mallard, has been sorely missing his late wife Sinead who tragically died in October after a battle with cancer, and has opted for a bizarre coping mechanism.

Daniel has been talking to sex worker Nicky Wheatley, who is played by Kimberly Hart-Simpson, while pretending she is his late wife and fans have deemed the storyline as “too creepy for words.”

In recent scenes, Daniel asks Nicky to wear Sinead’s cardigan while opening up to her, and, as a result, she’s attempted to distance herself from the situation.

Nicky tells Daniel he should open up to friends and family instead of paying her to wear Sinead’s cardigan and chat about his late wife.

As a result, fans of the ITV soap, who recently pointed out a big blunder on the show, have commented on the bizarre plot, with one saying: “Really really sad and creepy at the same time scares me actually but grief is hard to deal with so each to their own ways bless.”

He also chats to her friend Cherry over a video call but evidently bores her while discussing his son Bertie.

Some fans, however, have sympathised with his scenario and the way in which he’s dealing with his grief after the passing of his wife.

“I lost my partner of 30 years due to COVID and I can tell you grief is horrendous to cope with so if it gives him some kind of comfort so be it,” wrote one.
