Coronation Street fans devastated as Carla finds Peter’s suicide note to Simon

Coronation Street viewers were reduced to tears on Wednesday night as Carla Connor (Alison King) found Peter Barlow's (Chris Gascoyne) farewell letter to his son Simon (Alex Bains)

Peter sat down and wrote a heartbreaking message to Simon in recent scenes as he continues to battle his alcohol addiction.

He tracked down his estranged partner Carla during the latest visit to Weatherifeld and informed her that he'd like to draw a Line under their feud.

Peter then went on to tell her that he forgave her for sleeping with his nephew Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson).

Carla was relieved but the relief soon turned to horror when she realised it could be his way of saying goodbye to her.

She stormed around to Number 1 and was horrified when Peter failed to answer the front door.

A panicked Carla managed to get into the house and found Peter sitting with his earphones in.

The pair had a heart to heart and Carla later helped herself to Peter's notebook where she found a heartbreaking suicide note to Simon.

Viewers rushed to their keyboard to share to discuss the emotional scenes between the Corrie favourites.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: "Carla practically begging Peter not to kill himself has done it for me. The tears have arrived folks."

A second person posted:"That Peter and Carla scene was heartbreaking!"

While a third added: "Oh @itvcorrie what an episode. Heartbreaking scenes from Peter and Carla."

A fourth person wrote: "The pain in Carla and Peter’s voices has absolutely broken me."

Peter insisted the handwritten message wasn't suicide note, but rather a farewell letter, as he’d come to accept that he’s dying.

Carla was hellbent on making Peter see the bigger picture, and dragged Simon round to No. 1, where she, much to Peter’s dismay. read out the letter.

Simon was left horrified and headed out, as Carla begged Peter to save himself before it’s too late.

Will Peter listen to what Carla has to say?

Coronation Street continues on ITV on Friday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm
