Beverley Callard hints at Liz off screen death as she refuses Corrie return

Coronation Street’s Beverley Callard has teased the legendary Liz McDonald could die off screen as she rules out ever returning.

Beverley, who appeared on I‘m A Celebrity at the end of last year, announced she was leaving the soap in November 2019 as part of a big storyline.

But due to a hip operation and coronavirus wreaking havoc on the filming schedules, her final scenes were never shot.

Instead, Liz ‘went away to Spain’ to never return, with her on-screen son Steve (Simon Gregson) revealing her fate with a throwaway comment.

While Beverley previously said she would come back to have an official goodbye to the cobbles, she’s now ruled it out – leaving the leopard-print loving former barmaid’s future a mystery.

‘I loved Coronation Street. I still do and I always will,’ she told Sunday Express’ S Magazine.

‘But sometimes it’s just not your turn on the merry-go-round.

‘It was a massive decision for me to make, but I believe I did it for the right reasons.

‘I felt Liz had run her course. I’d hate to cheat any fans out there who were waiting and hoping for something amazing to happen to her. I felt like she’d lost her way.’

On what she felt could happen to the character, who has been a recurring face on the Street since 1989, Liz said she hoped that someday she would reunite with longtime love, Jim McDonald (Charles Lawson).

‘Sadly, you can’t decide your own storylines and since I’m not going to film an exit, they could even kill me off-screen,’ she then added.

‘If they do I’ll accept it with grace. I’ve thought long and hard about this and I know that this time I’ve shut the door on Coronation Street forever.’
