Adil Ray forced to spend Christmas alone for Good Morning Britain

Adil Ray will sadly be among those forced to spend Christmas alone this year after travelling to London to host Good Morning Britain.

The 46-year-old presenter and Charlotte Hawkins are filling in for Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid this week in the run up to Christmas on Friday.

However, Adil lives in Birmingham which is currently in tier three so travelling into London, which was plunged into the strict tier four over the weekend, means he’ll have to isolate upon his return to the Midlands.

Explaining his disappointing situation to Charlotte, 45, the presenter explained: ‘Because I’m from Birmingham, which is tier three, and I came down for work – which you’re allowed to do – in tier four… On the weekend I came down it was announced it was tier four.

‘Then on Monday, local authorities – not the national government – have now offered guidance that if you are now coming into places from tier four then you must self-isolate for 10 days.’

Adil continued: ‘For people who were going up, presumably to see their families, it’s probably not so difficult because they’re just going to have to spend longer with their families.

‘But for someone like me, and I’m not looking for any sympathy, I have to just get on with it. I live on my own and I thought I’d come down for a couple of days’ work, go back and see my brother in Birmingham with my nephews and spend Christmas Day with him.’

The TV star then realised that he will at least have his beloved dog Robin for company but he won’t be able to walk him.

‘I will have to ask a friend round the corner if she doesn’t mind coming every day and taking him for a walk or I won’t be able to have Robin either,’ Adil revealed.

However, he reasoned: ‘These are very small problems – there are people up and down the country with all sorts of issues and some more serious than mine.’

On the bright side, Adil and Charlotte joked that they’ll sing carols to each other on Christmas morning.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
