Mother ‘in shock’ at discovering secret section on shopping trolley… do YOU know what it’s for?

They’ve been hiding in plain sight for years… two metal loops at the front of most supermarket trolleys –  but do you know what they’re used for? 

One mother was so gobsmacked by her discovery, she took to TikTok to share the revelation with her 75,000 followers.

Gemma Bird, who goes by Money Mum on social media, shared her exciting find on TikTok, admitting she had only ‘just found this out.’

The savvy mother typically uses the platform to share cash-saving tips for hard-up parents, but this time offered up something money can’t buy. 

The mother shared a video on TikTok after she discovered what the extra section in shopping trolleys are for


And many of the Money Mum’s followers were left in awe at the discovery, as one person wrote: ‘Im 40 and only just found this out’

Ms Bird discovered that the front of most shopping trolleys have two metal hoops, which can be lifted up to reveal two holes.

In her TokTok video, she drops flowers and a baguette through the holes. She captioned the video: ‘Did you know this??? Let me know I’m in shock I didn’t ha ha.’

The TikToker begins the video by showing an empty trolley as she says, ‘Oh my god, is it just me or did you realise these existed on trollies?’

Ms Bird then proceeds to slip the items into the metal – and they fit perfectly – as she exclaims: ‘I’m still in shock.’ 

And many of the Money Mum’s followers were left in awe at the discovery.

One follower wrote: ‘Im 40 and only just found this out.’

And another said: ‘I’ve never seen that before.’

While a third aded: ‘Never seen one of these on a trolley.’

And a fourth said they were going to go shopping to try them out, commenting: ‘I think they have not long been on because I’ve not seen it before, going to check now.’

And others thought the hoops had different purposes, as one person write: ‘I thought they were for wine,’ while Ms Bird replied: ‘Well they can be hun.’ 

However, while this may have been a new discovery for the mother, not all of her followers were quite as flabbergasted by the find.

Many explained that the holes are not a new addition at the end of the compartment, as one person wrote: ‘Been there since 2000.’

And a second said: ‘Pretty sure there used to be instructions on the trolley handle to tell you what they were for. 

‘Either way, pretty obvious really.’

A third person put: ‘Yes some of us been doing this for years but I think I’m bit older than u sweet.’
