Where the Borat cast is now – Hollywood fame, lawsuits, porn and tragic death

Sacha Baron Cohen shot to fame on Da Ali G Show, which also featured the character of Borat Sagdiyev, who went on to get a solo movie.

The controversial character makes a return in a follow-up to the 2006 film on Friday on Amazon Prime in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan – or, simple, Borat 2.

The original film had a limited cast, with it focusing on Borat and his producer Azamat Bagatov, though other characters and personalities made appearances along the way.

While a number of the stars have stayed in the spotlight, others had more bittersweet fates.

Sacha Baron Cohen – Borat Sagdiyev

As the star of the show, Sacha Baron Cohen has never left Hollywood and, as well as starring in a number of flicks for his own characters, has appeared a number of other movies.

The 49-year-old – married to actress Isla Fisher – went on to have films for his characters Bruno Gehard and Admiral General Aladeen, while playing a few different parts in his series Who is America?

On top of that, the father-of-three has starred in movies including Disney's Alive Through the Looking Glass and lent his voice to the Madagascar film series as King Julien XIII.

He has faced a bunch of criticism throughout his career due to his outlandish characters.

In 2009, a charity worker sued him, claiming a scene filmed for Bruno left her disabled, saying he "beat her down emotionally to the point she's not confined to a wheelchair". The case was dismissed.

In 2010, Palestinian Christian grocer Ayman Abu Aita launched a lawsuit against him, saying he had been defamed by false accusations that he was a terrorist in Bruno. In 2012, the claim was settled out of court for an undisclosed amount and the case dismissed.

Most recently, in 2018, former Senate candidate Roy Moore sued him for $95million for an interview in Who is America? In July 2020, a judge dismissed Sacha's motion to have the case dismissed, meaning it is ongoing.

Ken Davitian played Azamat Bagatov, the producer of Borat's documentary who travelled America with him.

Now 67, the actor has continued to appear on our screens in movies and television series.

He played a cab driver in the Elizabeth Banks flick Walk of Shame, a club owner in the 2016 Nina Simone biopic and starred alongside Bruce Willis and Jason Momoa in Once Upon a Time in Venice.

As for television, Ken has appeared in Two and a Half Men, Hawaii Five-0, Ray Donovan and Cobra Kai, among others.

The star, born in Los Angeles, California is fluent in Armenian and spoke the language in the original Borat movie.

Sadly, Ken will not reprise his role of Azamat, a character created specifically for the first movie, in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.

Luenell Campbell – Luenell the prostitute

  • Sacha Baron Cohen feared he was going to be shot by gun rights gang during Borat 2 filming

American actress and comedian Luenell Campbell, known as Luenell, played a prostitute of the same name in the original Borat film.

She went with Borat to the Southern dinner and then returned to Kazakhstan to marry Borat.

Luenell will make an uncredited appearance in the sequel, which suggests it won't be a large role, but it's not the only thing she's got on the cards.

She's appeared in A Star Is Born, Taken 2 and Hotel Transylvania, as well as Californication among other movies and television shows.

The 61-year-old has acted alongside Adam Sandler, Liam Neeson and Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester.

In 2017, she appeared in the adult magazine Penthouse, though the photoshoot that accompanied her interview was non-nude.

According to her IMDB page, Luenell has six other acting roles this year, as well as an upcoming feature in All-Star Weekend, which currently has no release date.

Pamela Anderson – as herself

Pamela Anderson was a central part of the first Borat film as Borat was obsessed with her, so travelled across America to find her.

She made a cameo at the end of the film in an abduction attempt that went wrong, when Borat wanted to "marry" their cultures.

Pamela, 53, is a huge star in her own right though, which is how Borat knew about her in the first place.

Since her tongue-in-cheek cameo, Pamela, best known for starring in Baywatch, hasn't stopped.

The mum-of-two was married to Kid Rock in 2006, though they divorced a year later and she tied the knot to Rick Salomon.

Sacha Baron Cohen confirmed that Pamela had told him that her cameo in Borat was one of the reasons for her divorce from Kid Rock, as he hadn't been impressed during a screening.

They annulled their marriage in 2008 but wed again in 2014, before divorcing in 2015.

She then married Jon Peters on January 20 of year, though they announced their separation on February 1.

In the UK, Pamela has appeared on Dancing on Ice and Celebrity Juice, and made a fleeting visit to the Big Brother house in 2011.

She competed on Dancing with the Stars in 2010 and 2012 and, most recently, appeared in the revivied version of The Hills: New Beginnings.

Brittany CoxXx – Borat's son Hooeylewis

Brittany CoxXx, born Adrian Cortez, played Borat's son Hooeylewis before she transitioned from male to female.

In the film, Borat showed photos of himself with Hooeylewis – who appeared full frontal naked – to an etiquette coach.

Hooeylewis was supposed to be a teenager, however Brittany, who was then known by her gay porn stage name Stonie, was chosen as they looked young but were of legal age and would do full nudity.

Borat was released while Brittany was transitioning and her friend Chi Chi LaRue said "she was happier once she transitioned".

She also transitioned from gay porn into transsexual porn, and was nominated for Transsexual Performer Of The Year at the 2009 AVN Awards.

Three years after Borat was released, in 2009, Brittany left the adult industry and spent several months battling Hepatitis B and liver disease in hospital.

By September 2010, she had recovered.

However just six years later, in 2016, at the age of 38, Brittany died, with her cause of death not revealed publicly.

Borat's son Hooeylewis will not appear in the sequel, however his daughter Sandra Jessica Parker Sagdiyev, played by Maria Bakalova, will.

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan is released on Amazon Prime on Friday, October 23
