After being announced back in 2019, we now have the first trailer for Shin Ultraman: A Special-Effects Fantasy Movie (Shin Urutoraman: Kūsō Tokusatsu Eiga).
Written and produced by an avid fan of the franchise, Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno, the upcoming feature continues the serious, mature tone he established with 2016’s Shin Godzilla. Anno worked with his longtime creative partner director Shinji Higuchi to bring the origin story to life for Tsuburaya Productions, Toho Company and Khara.
The dialogue-free trailer centers around the “Investigative Report on Giant Humanoid Organism Ultraman (Code Name)” with a look at the new look of the silver and red hero. Despite being part of a timeline separate from the rest of the iconic franchise, the film does look to feature Neronga and Gabora, kaiju from the original 1966 TV series.
Watch the first trailer above and look for Shin Ultraman: A Special-Effects Fantasy Movie to release sometime this summer.
