Watch dramatic dead heat in Newcastle thriller as stumped judges cannot split the two winners

THIS is the dramatic dead heat that judges simply could not split after a thriller at Newcastle.

Ben Curtis and Luke Morris ran out an absolute cracker in the 2.30pm contest over six furlongs.

Initially it looked like Morris on 2-1 Sharp Riposte had the beating of rivals as he surged clear one furlong out.

Ridden hard, the Marco Botti-trained two-year-old kept finding more as the finishing post approached.

But a surge of speed from Curtis' 100-30 shot Boondoggle saw them draw level, before Curtis crept ahead.

Sharp Riposte was not to be denied though, and Morris forced an amazing dead heat in the very final strides.

After a lengthy examination of the photo finish, judges decided it was too close to call.

A dead heat was dished out, with Boondoggle and Sharp Riposte named joint-winners.

For punters, that means they won half their stake.

So if they put £10 on one of them winning, the return would be as if you put £5 on.

One viewer said: "Amazing! They run three-quarters of a mile and get to this, a dead heat!"

Another commented: "An exciting finish in the third at Newcastle @_benacurtis thought you had just got the verdict but dead heat the result."

This is the second dead heat this month, after another was called at Brighton.

Judges could not pick between Kendergarten Kop and Batchelor Boy at the end of a six-furlong sprint.
