UK DIY stores: Which DIY stores are still open?

While most of our favourite DIY stores have closed their physical doors to customers, many are still offering online access to supplies. But, as you can imagine, everyone else has had the same idea, and many DIY stores are seeing heavy traffic online.

Although DIY stores have been delegated a key service by the government, many are closed in order to protect the health of their staff.

The Government has also urged people not to undertake major home renovations as council waste collection services are reduced.

However, homeware providers have remained open for essential items, and B&Q has now reopened physical stores.

Here is a guide on how to access each of your favourite DIY stores:

B&Q

B&Q has delighted customers by reopening physical stores across the country.

Ten stores have opened, albeit with social distancing in place.

A spokesperson for B&Q said: “We’re strictly limiting the number of customers in store at any one time, and so customers may need to queue before entering the store.

“To help remind everyone to respect each other’s personal space, we have two metre floor markers throughout these stores and also perspex screens at the checkouts.”

“We’re urging all customers to follow the government’s social distancing guidelines and to shop responsibly only for what is necessary.”

Wickes

Wickes is still accepting online orders for home delivery, but physical stores are not open currently.

The good news is you can still use its click and collect services, available between 6am and 3pm.

Virtual queues of up to an hour have been reported by those trying to use the Wickes website.

  • Homebase Click & Collect opening hours: What time is Homebase open?

Homebase

Homebase is continuing to offer home delivery, though wait times will range from three to 10 days.

Homebase are also warning customers that some lead times may be longer than advertised as staff work hard to fulfil demand.

So far, there don’t appear to be any major restrictions on orders, with good stocks available site-wide.

Physical Homebase stores are still closed.

A statement on the Homebase website reads: “With safety as our first priority, we have taken the decision to continue to operate online only, and our home delivery service has been adapted to keep our teams safe during this time.

“For the time being our stores will remain closed to customers and we’ll let you know as soon as we reopen.

“While we’re operating online only, the huge demand means it’s taking us longer than usual to deliver some of our products.

“During this challenging time, we’re doing everything we can to minimise any delays.”

Screwfix

It is still possible to get delivery on some Screwfix products via the website, though like many other retailers there are delays.

Screwfix are also offering click and collect on essential items.

Argos

Although not strictly a DIY store, Argos sells a wide range of furniture and home decorating products.
Argos are still delivery orders and only Argos Sainsbury’s branches are still open to walk in.

A statement on the Argos website reads: “Following the Prime Minister’s announcement, standalone Argos stores are now closed.

“The Argos website is open as usual and still offering fast delivery, so we can continue to serve you while our shops are shut.”
