TikTok has been making the news lately for its bizarre but genius beauty hacks. From three-step mascara tricks to coffee-infused eyebrow tint, the popular app is an epicentre for DIY recipes and affordable beauty dupes.

Here at OK! we love a beauty hack, and one that has recently caught our attention sees TikTokers soaking their hair in rice water – all in the hope of achieving soft, shiny, and longer lengths.

Beauty fans on the app have been ditching their expensive salon treatments, hair oils, and leave-in conditioners for a recipe made with items that can be found in most kitchen cupboards.

Trying out the theory for herself, Australian TikTok user Bekkii Vosper decided to put the recipe to the test and shared the journey with her 62.1K followers.

“As you can see, my hair is super damaged and dry,” she says, showing off her split ends to the camera. “I wanted to try out this rice water trick that people use.”

Explaining the process to her followers, Bekkii says: “I just washed some rice, I didn’t cook it, and I put it in a mason jar.”

“And then I filled the mason jar like three quarters of the way and I just shook it up.”

Once the contents are mixed, Bekkii explains that she added apple cider vinegar and then “poured all of the water into a spray bottle”.

After washing her hair normally with shampoo and conditioner, the beauty fan then sprayed the rice water directly onto her hair from her roots and all the way through to her ends.

Bekkii seemed amazed at the results as she showed off her freshly blow-dried mane.

“Oh my god, my hair looks so good,” she says. “It’s so shiny and so silky, I can’t believe it.”

The short clip gained a lot of attention from fellow TikTok users who appeared impressed with the cost-free hair treatment.

“Wow, looking amazing,” one user said.

“Looks so good, omg,” another wrote.

Although Bekkii seemed happy with the results, some beauty fans didn’t agree with the process, warning the user of the potential side effects.
