'Teen Mom': Taylor Selfridge and 'Challenge' Star Cory Warton Special Canceled after Racist Remarks Resurface

Tv networks are taking no prisoners when it comes to people and their racist comments. In the wake of the brutal murder of George Floyd, people are speaking out against racial injustices around the world. For a lot of celebrities, this means that their past instances of discrimination and using racially charged language are resurfacing and they are now having to pay the price. Taylor Selfridge of Teen Mom is the latest star to be fired due to things she has said in the past.

What did Taylor Selfridge say?

In 2012, Selfridge, who is now dating Cory Wharton of MTV’s The Challenge, tweeted a number of racist remarks including, “We have to greet everyone at work but sometimes I won’t greet the black people because they scare me,” and, “My uncle is dating an Asian. Aunt Ping please make me sushi.”

The tweets were brought up during season 8 of Teen Mom OG and Selfridge apologized for what she said in a conversation with Cheyenne Floyd, the mother of Wharton’s first child.

“At the time, because I was younger, I wasn’t thinking it was anything negative,” Selfridge said. “I thought, ‘Oh, this is funny,’ or something like that. But it’s not. This happened a long time ago. That’s my biggest mistake. I just had to grow up, honestly. I had to experience other places.”

Taylor gets cut from MTV

Selfridge and Wharton have a long history with MTV. Selfridge first appeared on MTV’s Are You The One? in 2017. She then met Wharton on Ex on the Beach in 2018. Wharton appeared on The Real World, has been a regular on The Challenge, and has appeared on Teen Mom OG since 2018 with his first child, Ryder, and Floyd. When Wharton began appearing on Teen Mom, Selfridge was also given appearances on the show.

Wharton and Selfridge were set to have their own special after the birth of their daughter, but that has now been canceled.

“MTV pulled Teen Mom OG At Home: Cory & Taylor’s Baby Special from its Tuesday schedule and is ending our relationship with Taylor Selfridge in light of her past racist statements on social media,” an MTV spokesperson told HollywoodLife. “MTV strongly condemns systemic racism and stands with those raising their voices against injustice.”

Selfridge issued an apology after her special was canceled.

“I don’t believe the reality TV lifestyle benefits me any further at this point in my life,” Selfridge wrote. “With current events being what they are and reality TV being selective in who they apply rules to or what is considered acceptable behavior, I do not have any further respect. Once again, I apologize for anyone I have hurt or offended in the past. I have addressed my mistakes many times on the network and I would like to move on and continue to be the best version of myself. My past does not define who I am today and I hope you guys can see the change. Please respect my decision to provide a normal, healthy life for my family.”

She has since set her Instagram account to private.
