Sophie took on the role as a working royal when she married the Queen’s youngest son, Prince Edward.

As a senior royal, Sophie will represent the Queen at events all over the world.

She may not be the only working royal but it is thought she is one of the Queen’s favourites.

Some royal fans believe the Countess will be asked to step up and take on more duties in the near future.

Why are Sophie and the Queen so close?

Taking naturally to royal life may have helped Sophie get into the Queen’s good books, body language expert Judi James explained.

She told “Sophie is said to be a close ally of her mother-in-law the Queen.

“In terms of her body language she tends to blend some of the signals of the kind of laid-back calm and fun that we get from Zara [Tindall] with the stoic, deft formality of the Queen herself.”

The two royal ladies could also share a special bond because of a few things they have in common.

The Queen is known to be a big fan of horses and enjoys riding in the grounds of her home.

This is a sport Sophie also likes and is thought to fill her spare time with.

Sophie and the Queen have even been spotted riding together at Windsor Castle in the past.

Living in Windsor

Although there are many royal residences, the monarch is said to favour her Windsor Castle home.

Sophie lives just a short commute away at Bagshot Park with Prince Edward and their two children.

The Queen reportedly enjoys Sophie’s company so much she will sometimes drop by unannounced.

When a royal bride ties the knot, they will often get to borrow a piece from the Queen’s collection.

While most brides will simply wear a tiara for the big day, Sophie was given one commissioned by the Queen as a gift.

The Countess walked down the aisle wearing a jewel made up of four pieces of Queen Victoria’s Regal Circlet.
