Avocados are a maligned food, being blamed for everything from the housing crisis to cutting people’s hands when they try to remove the stone.
Meghan Markle was even accused of ‘fuelling drought and murder’ by eating the creamy fruit.
We know the truth, though, that a simple avocado addition to any meal makes it pop. It’s just a bit faffy.
The mum who runs the Taste This Now YouTube channel has a tip that can save washing up a separate bowl after mashing the avo, and avoid any chopping accidents in the process.
She told Metro.co.uk: ‘Usually I’d cut avocado in half, spoon out into a bowl, and then mash with a fork.
‘But as a busy mum and someone who likes to reduce washing dishes as much as possible, I realised this is a much better way to have my avocado toast or even for my guacamole… squeeze and bin – simple!’
In the Taste This Now video, she uses her thumb to gently push the avocado skin all over, before removing the stem part at the top.
From there, she was able to simply squeeze out the pre-mashed avocado right onto her toast.
She adds: ‘Then you can leave the rest back in the fridge until you need it and it won’t brown – or you can use it all up with no washing!’
You will need a very ripe avocado for this tip to work best, and you need to ensure you don’t put your thumb through the skin in the first stage.
However, it definitely beats trying to spear a huge stone and pouring blood trying to make your breakfast.
