Hundreds of Sky customers in North London have been left unable to get online, make or receive phone calls due to an ongoing outage. The problems were confirmed by the @SkyHelp account on Twitter, which is used by customer care representatives from Sky to address any concerns tweeted by customers. In response to a growing number of people reporting issues with their broadband connections, the @SkyHelp team confirmed there was an outage impacting swathes of the capital city.
“We’ve been made aware of an outage in North London – any updates we receive will be posted to our Twitter page. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this causes,” the team confirmed.
The issues will impact any customers who pay for their broadband through Sky. That includes anyone with a Sky Q set-top box as well as their broadband. Anyone with the former will now find any on-demand and smart features, like the ability to check the latest headlines while watching a channel or stream boxsets from Netflix and Disney+, on Sky Q will not work while the internet outage persists. Landline calls are also impacted by the ongoing troubles, so Sky customers are unable to receive or make calls to landline or mobile numbers.
According to DownDetector, which tracks mentions across social media to determine whether an online service is experiencing difficulties, hundreds of Sky customers are voicing concerns about their broadband connection every minute in the UK. At its peak, more than 800 people flooded social media to complain about the problems plaguing Sky.
With millions of people still working and studying from home at the moment, broadband outages have a huge impact. It leaves people unable to join work calls, collaborate on documents in Office 365 or Google Docs, or upload homework or other documents into cloud storage folders.
