    LADIES DAY

Getting busier around the track now as more and more racegoers arrive on Gold Cup day.

We've had some weird and wonderful outfits thus far, long may it continue!

    LUNCHTIME NAP

You won't want to sleep through this one….

Our man Templegate has flagged a 17/2 NAP for day three – which is down to 9/2 with most bookies now!

SUREFIRE powered home to score over 1m2f at Leicester last time and will relish this extra quarter-mile.
That was just his fourth run so there should be improvement to come and Ralph Beckett has his horses in good form.

    RAIN RULED OUT

The latest from the course is rain is now not expected to be heavy until tomorrow.

It's a light drizzle at the minute which won't impact the ground much, with potentially up to 12mm tomorrow.

    MOHAAFETH'S TIME

William Haggas withdrew Mohaafeth late at Epsom for the Cazoo Derby and kept him fresh for today's Hampton Court.

The ground at Epsom that day was too soft for the Shadwell Estate runner and it seemed he would get his ground this time.

Rain falling heavy for Day Three is not what Haggas and jockey Jim Crowley will have wanted but the trainer insists he will definitely run, regardless.

He obviously doesn’t want much rain but he’ll run, I promised Sheikha Hissa he’d run at Ascot regardless.
It’s just the way it is, it’s typical.
Everything has been good with him, he’s in great form and he really is a lovely horse, we just won’t see him at his best on soft ground – but that’s the way it is.
He’ll still run a good race, he’s very well.

    GETTING FIT

Frankie Dettori is on his morning treadmill workout as he prepares for a potentially historic afternoon.

Stradivarius still on the drift, now 6/5.

    OTHER MOVERS

The other market movers this morning as punters are none the wiser about this afternoon's weather.

    2.30 Khunan 16/1 from 40/1

    3.40 Noon Star 9/4 from 3/1

    4.15 Trueshan 4/1

    5.35 First Light 9/2 from 13/2

    5.35 Soapy Stevens 14/1 from 25/1

  • Craig Mahood

    HOWEVER….

Trueshan is up against the best stayer in the modern era.

Stradivarius and the Dettori/Gosden combination are aiming to emulate Yeats' record of FOUR consecutive Ascot Gold Cup wins.

What a ROUT it was last year!

  • Craig Mahood

    TRUE GROUND

One horse hoping the rain continues to come is Trueshan.

Hollie Doyle's mount is seeing the support overnight as punters look for Doyle to take on Dettori on Stradivarius in the Gold Cup.

Paddy Power has clipped Trueshan into 4/1 from 6/1 as the Queen of Flat Racing looks for her second Group 2.

I don't want to make Frankie feel old, but he'd already won this race twice before Hollie was even born.
Racing's greatest showman now has 75 Royal Ascot winners to his name, but punters can't get enough of Hollie Doyle. After watching Rachael Blackmore's epic Cheltenham and then her Grand National win, they're backing Hollie to prove once again being a fearless jockey isn't all about having balls.

    CRUCIAL GOING UPDATE 🚨

We were promised thunderstorms and heavy rain and a wet night.

In reality, just 2.4mm of rain fell on course last night.

As a result, clerk of the course Chris Stickels revealed the going remains good to firm.

The rain is light on course at the moment, with more forecase just before racing commences.

    STUNNING BEAUTY CONTROVERSY

Silvestre de Sousa is FURIOUS after shouting: "Wait wait wait", at the start.

Stunning Beauty was still hooked onto the stalls by their rug.

De Sousa clearly shouting for them to stop the start while his mount still had the hood on too.

Given no chance and he is rightly raging!

LOLA SHOWGIRL WINS THE KENSINGTON PALACE STAKES

A 1-2 for trainer David Loughnane but it's a great ride from Laura Pearson – just her 41st career win!

  • Craig Mahood

    6.10 KENSINGTON PALACE STAKES

Lola Showgirl with a length lead at the top of the straight.

Ffion has been a length away the whole run, while Waliyak is staying on.

But Laura Pearson gets her first Royal Ascot win aboard LOLA SHOWGIRL!

    6.10 KENSINGTON PALACE STAKES

And they're off – except Stunning Beauty who stayed in the stalls!

    AT THE START

The finale over 1m is almost upon us.

It's less sunny and more muggy now, a sign these thunderstorms are en route?

  • Craig Mahood

    DREAM-LAND

The final picks of our men to conclude day two.

And again they both agree with Dreamloper.

Was 8/1, now the 4/1 favourite in this big handicap.

Has good record here and was a solid second last time.

    Templegate

Day 2 ends with the Kensington Palace Handicap for fillies and mares over 1m. DREAMLOPER was just touched off last time and I thought he should have won. He’s 1lb better off with the winner Lights On who reppposes.
