Ricky Gervais video roasting awards gets more views than Oscars ceremony

A video Ricky Gervais shared on Oscars night, along with a tweet trolling the annual ceremony, has seemingly garnered more than three times more views than the actual 2021 Oscars in a savage blow to the awards.

On Sunday night the After Life comedian shared a clip of his 2020 Golden Globes opening monologue in which he levelled a blow at the Oscars

But what has added salt to the wound is the sheer number of views Ricky’s speech has got in the days following, which pummelled that of the Oscars’ ratings.

Only a reported 9.85million tuned into the televised ceremony on Sunday night in the US, it has been revealed, while Ricky’s clip on Twitter has earned a massive 33.8m at time of writing.

Taking to Twitter on Sunday evening, the star mused, alongside a laughing emoji: ‘It’s The Oscars tonight! I wasn’t invited.

‘Was it something I said?’

All the changes were just too much for Arnold Schwarzenegger for one, who had some brutally honest thoughts on the show.

Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday, the Terminator actor admitted: ‘I basically just turned it off and I just couldn’t watch it anymore because there was so much talent there on the stage that it was so boring – how could you make this, with all this talent, so boring?’

He then jokingly offered a suggestion to improve next year’s awards, adding: ‘I think next time, they should take it to Muscle Beach and have the Oscars on Muscle Beach.’

We reckon Oscars 2022 on Muscle Beach with Ricky Gervais hosting is the ticket to revive this beast.
