Primark worker reveals store secrets, including how to get 10% off

Earlier this month, a former Primark worker spilled secrets on what it was like working in the store – from secret codes you might hear over the tannoy to reasons why the shoe department might be smelly.

Now a second whistleblower has done the same, with even more hot tea for the sipping.

Poleigh Soper told her trade secrets on TikTok with her 72,000 followers, and they’re certainly interesting.

Mr Brown

Firstly, she spoke all about what it means to hear from ‘Mr Brown’ on the announcements.

Poleigh said: ‘Have you ever heard “can Mr Brown just come to the checkout?” Let me tell you who that is.

‘Say your security company, who stand by the door to make sure nobody’s stealing, their name is Brown’s Security Services, that’s who they’re calling.

‘They’re actually calling for security, they just don’t want the customer to know.’

The paper in your purse

She also revealed the reason why staff always remove the piece of tissue paper in bags and purses at the till.

Apparently, this is to make sure customers aren’t stowing away any extra items to surreptitiously steal.

‘However, we’re not actually allowed to accuse you of stealing,’ adds Poleigh.

‘We just have to simply say “would you like that as well?” I can tell you ten out of ten times, the answer is “no thanks.”‘

A ringing bell

Have you ever heard the bell ringing near the checkouts? Apparently there are hidden meanings behind these, too.

Poleigh explains: ‘Two rings of the call bell, we want a supervisor or a manager’s help. If you hear three rings of a call bell it means there’s an emergency.’

One to keep in mind.

Code two

Next up might be the grossest of all.

According to Poleigh, a code two signals a spillage of the human kind. She said in her TikTok: ‘It just so happens that some customers like to use the floor as a toilet.

‘A code two coming across the tannoy for the cleaners means they’re just being made aware they’re going to be cleaning up some bodily fluid.’ Lovely.

10% discount

If you’re after a discount, there aren’t exactly any magic tricks to use. However, if there’s only one of an item left and it’s slightly damaged or soiled, you can bag yourself 10% off.

‘If you’ve got a slight bit of dirt or damage on an item and they don’t have any more of them in your size take it to the till,’ Poleigh says.

‘If you’re still happy to buy it that’s 10% off.’
