Former political staffer Brittany Higgins has alleged she was raped by a colleague in Defence Minister Linda Reynolds’ ministerial office, where they both worked in 2019, when she was 24 years old.
Ms Higgins says she was offered some support by her employers, including the Minister, but felt she was left with no choice but to resign and give up her dream career. Particularly distressing was that she was made to have a meeting with Ms Reynolds in the room where the alleged rape took place.
In this episode of Please Explain Daily, national editor Tory Maguire and deputy federal editor Stephanie Peatling reflect on the terrible chain of events and the spotlight they’ve shone on the employment conditions for political staffers.
