Shopping in supermarkets is one of the parts of live transformed bu the coronavirus. There are now new rules when it comes to getting our groceries. How are supermarkets interpreting them?
Tesco is asking shoppers to wear face masks in store. It is also selling the masks in store for those who don’t have one with them and are not exempt from the rules.
Staff won’t be policing this, however.
The supermarket said: “Please try to shop on your own to help reduce the number of people in-store at any one time. We understand that this is not always possible, so if you need to bring children with you or shop with a carer, you are welcome to do so.”
Asda is asking customers to wear masks and stay two metres apart in stores.
A spokesperson said: “Throughout the pandemic our customers have embraced many new rules to help keep everyone safe in our stores, and we are confident they will continue to show care and consideration for each other by wearing a face covering when they visit our stores.
“We also have signs at the entrance to the store and on the shelf edges to encourage customers to wear a face covering and are using Asda FM (our in-store radio) to further remind customers.
“While we will do all we can to strongly encourage customers to respect the new guidelines, the responsibility for policing and enforcing them does lie with the relevant authorities.”

Sainsbury’s is asking those who visit to wear a mask but, again, staff won’t be asked to enforce the rules.
It also said: “We are asking everyone to only send one adult per household to our shops.
“This helps us keep people a safe distance apart and also helps to reduce queues to get into stores.
“Our store teams will be asking groups with more than one adult to choose one adult to shop and will ask other adults to wait.
“Children are welcome if they are not able to stay at home.”
Aldi has made it mandatory to wear masks during shops.
It added: “While our stores remain open, the health and safety of our colleagues and customers is paramount, that’s why we are implementing the following steps to encourage social distancing.”
In other supermarket news, a Sainsbury’s Nectar Card new scheme is offering hundreds of extra points.
Sainsbury’s The Great Big Fruit & Veg Challenge is launching on September 7 and will run until October 4.
The scheme will create bespoke targets for shoppers based on how much fruit and veg they already buy.
This means Britons only need buy a little more to benefit.
Points can be earned buying more of the same fruit and veg, or buy purchasing new items.
