My husband's snoring forces me to sleep in the spare room but he hates it

DEAR DEIDRE:  MY husband’s snoring is causing a rift in our marriage. I don’t blame him but how can I escape from it?

We’re both 48. He has tried throat sprays, nose strips, special pillows, quitting alcohol and smoking – but still he keeps me awake every night.

I stare into space then eventually slip out of bed to sleep in the spare room. In the morning he’s moody as he realises I’ve left our bedroom. I rather enjoy being alone but he hates it and he feels terrible for disturbing me.

What can we do other than sleep separately?

DEIDRE SAYS: Has he kept up staying away from the alcohol and cigarettes? It’s no good just quitting for a month. And how is his weight? Being overweight is often an issue.

Urge him to see his GP in case of sleep apnoea. My e-leaflet Stopping Snoring explains lots of self-help.
